The Beautiful Barbara Bouchet (originally Bärbel Gutscher) was born in a section of Czechoslovakia ceded to Nazi Germany during WWII. After the war, her family was initially placed in a resettlement camp in Germany but eventually permitted to emigrate to California and ultimately wound up in San Francisco. Here, Barbara appeared on The KPIX Dance Party (My local CBS affiliate. Who knew…) as a teenager before setting her sights on Hollywood. Following some modeling stints and television commercials, she became an actress whose breakout role as Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond spoof Casino Royale (1967) came a year before she immortalized herself in Star Trek’s pantheon as Kelinda in By Any Other Name. After a few dozen roles in film and television, she grew weary of being typecast and unable to get leading roles. She moved to Italy around 1970, where she continued her acting career while also becoming a businesswoman who founded a company that produces fitness books and videos (She also owned and operated her own fitness center). Happily, Barbara is still with us today and just recently celebrated 80th birthday,
