Boardmanville, any way to get there legally in a Buggy?

This highlighted route is the only 100% legal way to get there, once you get across the tracks. Ted Kipf, along with the access road to Boardmanville are considered public roadways, because the county, at least on paper, maintains them. While you could take a "navigable" wash from route 759 down to the access road, you still couldn't drive on the access road. Any off route travel is subject to citation, as Lance can tell ya himself. :0

Pushing the OHV over the tracks is legal, but you need to be quick about it, so as to not impede traffic, which would be its own offense.

No. Is the short answer.
I would love to take CA to court on that one. I use to tell them if my truck is street legal in AZ does that mean it is not legal in CA, never got a straight answer.  My sand car was street legal in AZ. DON~~~

My first trip to Boardmanville, I simply drove over the tracks.

(FUNCO Full Travel) I did look left and right for trains.

You "can" make your buggy street legal in CA, but you wont want to take it in the dunes once you do... You will need all the things every other street legal vehicle needs. Windshield, wipers, turn signals, fenders, bumpers, and so on and so on. State Parks even made a handout some years back to show what your vehicle would need to have to be legal on the road. I've only seen a few buggys do this, and most are used for filming, like Pursuit Systems, but even they like to use normal street legal vehicles whenever they can otherwise do so.

Go there on an off week and cross over at Hwy 78. Chance it. I'm sure you'll be fine. "Heard that from a friend" Peace

There are no more off weekends.  Its damn busy every weekend now a days with the whole SXS dunes takeover.  Im glad I still have not gone back to RV as Toyhauler and truck is nice to just unhook and go to BVille.

i know they were working on getting some sort of crossing a few years ago just curious if anyone knew how that all was left.

Want to say the RR performed "Emergency Repairs" on the crossing one winter. Now that it's a newer crossing, good luck getting them to put in an OHV path.

So what about a CA plated and CA street legal DeJong Monster Manx? My main concern is driving over being on paddle tires and Baja pros and bead lock wheels since they are off highway only tires and not DOT approved.
I can drive on the highway with my BFG mud terrains, but you think they’ll bust me for the wheels/tires thing?

What If I just grind the “OFF HIGHWAY USE” lettering on the tires? Jkjk

i might give the ranger station or chp a call and ask them about it and if they say it’s okay see if I can get proof in writing. I’ll update what I hear from them

just the off part

I have an empty enclosed trailer. Load your Monster Manx inside and I’ll tow it across the train tracks.

I promise that I’ll give it back....

maybe.

We were at Boardmanville last March. There was some food truck competition going on. Parking lot was lot was full of sxs's rails and quads.  At least 4 rangers standing around.

Buddy hit one of them up and asked about the ohv access. Ranger was a pee pee. Says "can't you see Im on lunch".

So apparently you can push it across the railroad tracks and get back in and drive on the trails over to boardmanville.
