Baja Trip 2022

The ride on the beach before you head into San Quitin is so much fun.  My friend has a video of my X3, but not sure if it will upload onto the site

Did get a picture of a cow which was a few miles before the donkey ran out on the road.
Put it on YouTube, then link it here.

This was my first Baja trip with this X3 and the suspension set up Tom Morris did.  I cannot say enough good things about what a great job Tom Morris does on the X3 suspension.   It handled the rough stuff, rocks, bumps, whoops, and the roads perfectly.   People following me said they had a hard time judging the bumps, drops, and rough terrain because me suspension was soaking it up.  They had a few gotcha moments.  LOL!

You had me at oysters and fish tacos.  Used to go down there to camp, surf, ride motorcycles all along the stretch from Rosarito and South of Ensendada. Now that I'm old and may by something with a cage, I thinking I'd like to go down there again. Shoulda put a deposit on Speed UTV, lolz (sorry I had to). . .

Baja trips are the best. Looks like you stayed at Jardines in San Quintin? And you had dinner at Javier’s restaurant. Definitely one of my favorite places. Javier & his family are great people and have a great story about opening his little restaurant.

Next time instead of just sitting around San Quintin for the day. Make a run over to the island across the bay from the Old Mill. The access road is right down by the police station in town. That’s were the oyster farm is. Some great ocean views, breaking waves and you can see the volcano cone. Lots of lava rock over there.

Sounds like some friends need a little talk about prep. Bajas no joke and most think it’s all about the Tacos & Cervezas  Not only the off road vehicles need to be prepped, but trucks, trailers, anything you are taking across the boarder. This is the #1 thing anyone who I do trips with knows. This trip was a perfect example of how much down time there was for serpentine belts, idler pulleys., rear brake issues, misfires, bad injectors, Luckily you guys were in a paid guided trip that brings chases support down. Without it those issues could jeopardize everyone’s trip. Then the guy who rolled due to no rear brakes, needs to really understand Baja is about surviving. Trying to run at speed with a broke car could have ended really bad. Baja is allot less remote then it was 30 plus years ago, but even 7-8 years ago we saved a lost & broke MC rider who was not prepared for Baja. I doubt he would be alive today if we did not find him.

Glad you all had a great time. Glad your buddy’s are hooked. And sorry for being a downer. But please have a BBQ with your buddies, and have a serious talk about how great the trip was, but if they want to go again then they need to be more prepared.

I’m in the planning stages of a Tecate to Cabo trip with 3 to 5 cars max.
Javier’s restaurant is great and he has fixed up the Old Mill.  Jardines is still the nicest of the hotels.

We were down at the oyster farms when we were in San Quitin.  The radio tower we go to is on a dormant volcano.  San Quitin is a cool little town.

I agree prep for these trips is important and should not be taken lightly. Just as important is taking spare parts so if something happens you can fix it.

With that said stuff happens and it is part of the trip.  The bad injectors on a XP 1000 is a not something you can prep for so to speak.  His car was running perfectly fine before this trip. Thankfully he was able to fix it and get the parts.

The person that tipped on the side is no stranger to Baja.    Just one of those trips for him.

Really was not that much down time.

A Tecate to Cabo run is on my bucket list.   I take it you arrange for your rides to be shipped back to Tecate from Cabo.

A few of my Texas friends made the trip and now they have other friends from Texas that want to go.

When are you planning to go? That's a great trip!! I've done it in my Raptor a few times. It would be a long trip in a SxS. Let me know if you have any openings.

Yes the plan is to ship the cars back to Otay from Cabo. Some of this is depending on how many trucks with trailers follow us down. Most of my trips we don’t have any support, and have not really needed it. But for a trip this distance we will probably need something. So this is what I need to sort out, as the truck (s) & trailer (s) would need to be driven back, and if that’s the case, then some cars could come back on those trailers.

The plan is the family’s fly down to Cabo  and enjoy the resort while we are making trek down in the UTV’s. Then when we get there, we all spend a few more days in Cabo. Then everyone flies back, minus those support trucks which need to be driven back up.
The Cabo trip for sure need a chase truck.   Should be an awesome trip.   On this last trip Baja Voyager was our chase crew/support.  They did a great job.

do people ever do the trips on 4 wheelers?
I have seen some quads here and there.  It could be done, but not nearly as comfortable as doing it in a SXS.

A few of the guys on our trip use to do Baja trips on quads.  One of them use to race quads.
