Baja trips are the best. Looks like you stayed at Jardines in San Quintin? And you had dinner at Javier’s restaurant. Definitely one of my favorite places. Javier & his family are great people and have a great story about opening his little restaurant.
Next time instead of just sitting around San Quintin for the day. Make a run over to the island across the bay from the Old Mill. The access road is right down by the police station in town. That’s were the oyster farm is. Some great ocean views, breaking waves and you can see the volcano cone. Lots of lava rock over there.
Sounds like some friends need a little talk about prep. Bajas no joke and most think it’s all about the Tacos & Cervezas Not only the off road vehicles need to be prepped, but trucks, trailers, anything you are taking across the boarder. This is the #1 thing anyone who I do trips with knows. This trip was a perfect example of how much down time there was for serpentine belts, idler pulleys., rear brake issues, misfires, bad injectors, Luckily you guys were in a paid guided trip that brings chases support down. Without it those issues could jeopardize everyone’s trip. Then the guy who rolled due to no rear brakes, needs to really understand Baja is about surviving. Trying to run at speed with a broke car could have ended really bad. Baja is allot less remote then it was 30 plus years ago, but even 7-8 years ago we saved a lost & broke MC rider who was not prepared for Baja. I doubt he would be alive today if we did not find him.
Glad you all had a great time. Glad your buddy’s are hooked. And sorry for being a downer. But please have a BBQ with your buddies, and have a serious talk about how great the trip was, but if they want to go again then they need to be more prepared.
I’m in the planning stages of a Tecate to Cabo trip with 3 to 5 cars max.
