What is your preferred brand of high quality automotive relays?

Bosch wound be preferred.

But I've never seen sealed relays made by Bosch?

Let's Google...

With all of the switch panel options out there i would be looking at eliminating relays and using a simpler design that cleans also cleans up the wiring.
I am looking at the MSD solid state unit as a long term replacement. But would like to know what relays others are using that are trouble free.

Knock on wood but I have been using china ebay sealed relays. Almost 3 seasons so far.

I just replaced all my relays, wanted to go MSD route but went the cheap route. Should have just gone the MSD route. Screen Shot 2024-09-23 at 5.04.54 AM.pngScreen Shot 2024-09-23 at 5.09.39 AM.png

I did MSD and Switch Pro last season.
No relays left, just a few fuses.

When I did have relays, I ran the Hella.

switch pros and MSD is the way to go. Easy to install and clean. I have a large manual reset breaker for the power steering and two blade fuses for the intercom and radio. No relays left.

I run the Hella relays from Kartek on the engine side. For the chassis side its Switch Pros.

So I'll throw this out there...

MSD ignition products have sucked Hard since production went to China.

Even no name relays last for Ages when wired correctly.

Has anyone had any long term experiences with those MSD solid state relays?

🤔

I had relays last 2 trips...... and they were wired correctly. No thanks.

Alex Arvizu has been using MSD for years now with different customers and has not had anyone complain about them.

Are you talking about the relays?

Or their ignition products?

I replaced more MSD ignition products than I can count. Constant failures.

We switched to PerTronix and never looked back. Locally made and awesome support. They even Made a custom pick up for us one time!

Those MSD relays are pricey. Solid reviews though. 👍🏼

I am talking Hella Relays that were blowing in my car and 2 buddies cars.

I installed the MSD 7564 in 2023 when my entire car was rewired and all other types of relays were removed.

Ah. Copy.

Id definitely use Bosch for a standard relay.

Never seen that particular SS relay before. Looks cool. But just a bit pricey. Worth it if they work though.

👍🏼

Not much to go wrong with a standard relay as they are a pretty basic electromechanical design and have proven themselves to be very reliable. Too much amperage or exceeding the duty cycle is a sure way to kill a relay. SS is nice in that there are no moving parts but, it is solid state 😀

Here is something a bit different from the marine world...

I had to put electric fuel pumps in my BIL's OLD boat, so I took a waterproof box, and mounted all the electronics inside it.

I still used the sealed relays (just be safe) but something like this could also work good in a sandy environment, to keep all the sand out of the electronics.

Electronics always last longer if they are clean and dry.

Is the Switch Pros running the fuel pump via the ECM, or on the ignition switch? Only bummer I see is you lose the "engine ain't spinning, no pump" safety feature.
