I don’t know if it’s all the blowouts, close calls or watching too many trailer crash videos, but towing just scares the sh__ out of my lately.

I’ll drive a SXS or sand car to the limits and never feel scared, but towing is my least favorite part of the sport.

Anyone else have anxiety while towing. Note I have a 3500 dually only towing a small 28 foot fifth wheel, so it’s not like I don’t have enough truck or anything.

Need to get my train horn fixed. People are just idiots out there.. they love to pull in front and slam the brakes.

Gonna try to leave my rigs in Glamis for the season if there are available spots.

What say you?

My wife is now towing. We lost the brakes in the box trailer coming down from Green Valley Lake. After that, I'm having her drive the dually and I'm towing the box. The Dually can stop the TH even if the trailer brakes fail, the Suburban, not so much. Funny, she has no issues towing.

all of my stuff is getting older (Including me) & when it was all "new" it was a bit sketchy.  I keep all of my stuff in as good a shape as I can, so Im not too concerned about breaking down or tire blow outs.  with as tall as the trailer is & as small as my truck is....  it makes me pucker pretty good @ least once a year.

LOL yea I do. train horn and a light road soda eases the nerves. That bull$*&t on the 10 going through Beaumont into morongo is pucker time tho. I just stay in the middle lane and sway all over lol. But yes I hate towing and im a lil guy @ 36' DP and a 28' enclosed.

Anyone towing use those tire space saver things for Moho front blowouts?  They call em Tyron bands.

A dash cam doesn’t stop the idiots but at least gives you proof of why they ended up in the ditch.

I was just about to say the same thing. Hopefully all that construction is done before we start heading that way to Glamis. Drove through there last year in the morning hours and it started raining couldn’t see the lane or lines then the sun popped out and was blinded and then really couldn’t see  anything. Pucker up moment for sure!!!

Yeah, I can't understand all the construction on the roads. Only thing that makes me more nervous than being next to a swerving semi are those darn no shoulder K rails.

Just got off with Kyle, so I'm all set with 2 spots. I plan on taking 7-10 day trips this season. My truck is a 6 seater, so long as the bride/family want to go when I go, we can just take one vehicle and have my boy Fernando drop are stuff off in Wash 13 where my group likes to hang.

Should be a GREAT season!

For the most part I am pretty calm about it. I realize to enjoy the drive and just cruise out there. Also maintaining your vehicles adds a nice layer of comfort. I check my tire pressure before every trip and ensure my tires are in good shape.

I know times in the past when I have rushed to get out there I am more on edge versus just taking my time.

I don't mind towing for a couple reasons...

I have WAY more truck than I need to tow my 16' box.

Also, I'm not in any hurry getting there or coming home.

Set the CC at 62-63 and enjoy the drive.

These Yayhoo's towing a bazillion LBS with their 1/2 Ton Clapped out, squatted Dog Wheeling POS going 85 are complete IDIOTS!

I laugh, and give them the :thumb:

BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, that's SIKK!

:lmao:

Also, Change/replace your trailer tires every 4-5 years if not sooner.

I hated towing with the gasser moho.  Thing handled like a death trap.  Went to the diesel pusher discovery, and things were in much better control.  Recently upgraded to a tag axle moho w/ more power... and it got even better.  So my towing experience has been improving over time.  Lesson learned, is to have more tow vehicle than you need, rather than the other way around.

another thing that helps, is try and not be in a hurry (hard for me to do on the way out to the dunes).  Drive home always sucks.

I have no issues towing. Like others have said, it's about being properly configured and maintained. I tow well under the capacity of my truck and Moho, never get anywhere close to the capacity of a trailer and keep speed reasonable. I find it way easier and more relaxing to just set my cruise control in the low-mid 60's and have an easy drive. I can just cruise along, not have to pass much, use less fuel and it really doesn't take that much longer to get where I'm going. I try to keep all my stuff maintained and not puch the age or condition of my tires.

I'm a white knuckler in the wind with my class a. I've had that thing for 15 years and still not real comfortable driving it when it's windy. I spent over $6,500 in suspension, airbags, sway bars, front tire blowout system,etc..

Has any of those things helped?  Worth the money?  I've looked at many of them but never felt I needed them - except in the wind - been a few times that shook me up.  Always wanted to do the front tire blowout system.....never had a front tire issue in the motty but have had nightmares about it!

Like others i enjoy towing, a well equipped tow vehicle, new tires and good brakes seem to be the ticket.  I have graduated over the years from a pos S-10 pulling a 10' flatbed trailer to a new 1 ton and trailer.  New or very well maintained equipment really give you a feeling of confidence.   I also try and drive opposite of the traffic and at night if possible to avoid the mouth breathing steering wheel holders.

Yup I also like to set the cruise control in the low 60's. If I see highway patrol, it's just one quick stab to get back to 55mph. I agree, no rush, we take the 10, the 8 is no bueno and I never take the 60... got stuck there for 3 hours once (small bumper to bumper accident, no where to pull over).
