any good camping near the beach in San Diego?

I 2nd the state park in Carlsbad...if you can get in.

I had friends that used to go to Campland every summer, from Yuma...but it is not really on the ocean, as mentioned.

 
Looks like you got a pretty good list of places to check out and try to get a spot.  I think where you are going will have more to do with where you can go over where you want to go though. Start finding a spot, Like what was said above grab a reservation have your spot waiting then start calling around looking for a cancellation for a place that sounds better

this website notifies you when people cancel their reservations. I haven’t used it but a few of my friends have had good luck getting spots with it at some of the more popular places.

If you are at Campland or the Mission beach area rent some electric bikes and ride up into La Jolla. Stop at Don Bravos for fish tacos. Dukes in La Jolla has Hula Pie for desert. Only place other than Lelanies on Maui or Keokis in Kauii that I know of. Burger and some Hula pie. Yum. https://www.dukesrestaurants.com/hula-pie/

 
You can also see lots of seals playing at La Jolla Cove. Dukes is just up the hill from there. 

 
Carlsbad is really nice if you can get a spot. If you have a Moho bring a long cable so you can park head in and still hook up.

thanks to everybody who chimed in and gave there advice.so vets is not going to happen for me this year.im taking my AZ plumbing test on November 10th  and I just remembered I have 3 inspections one on 11/12 and the other 2 on 11/15 for my new pole barn im building and the township is so backed up and a mess I don't wanna push it back so we decided to do this for our new years trip.i ll do a November trip with my 2 kids on a off weekend but wife called around today and most said thay are booked for the Christmas and past New Years.but she did find one spot left at (Chula Vista k.o.a) looks nice, got good reviews and close to beach and to check out the san Diego area.
