wife may come out for vets but she's not a dune person and can only hang in the dunes for so long before she is board.so I figured I can come out a few days before vets and pull the TH out of storage and go into San Diego for a few days and give her a little something she wants before I head back to the dunes for vets weekend?

Yes! My favorite is Campland by the Bay. Then there is Silver Strands which is down by Coronado. There is also Mission bay Park and another down in National city but I don’t know the name of it.

What @Big_Daddy_Jp said.  Don't be surprised if you can't get into any of them, it's vacation season down here all year long.

2nd for Campland, just make sure you lock your stuff up. A lot of theft there. Even had a friend get his paddle board stolen off of the top of his TH but great location.

San Onofre is nice as well, but nothing around there and it’s a hike down the cliffs to the water.

Campland is fun if u got kids or if u like to party but its not really "beach" camping. Silver Strand is actual beach camping- if u can get in.

Pretty good idea. If you cant find a beach spot maybe you can park at a casino for a few days instead.

A buddy posted some Facebook pics from a "beach" campground recently.  Maybe Campland?  I joked that it looked like they were camping on a tarmac.

Campland is really nice!!! You can also get in one of the state campgrounds at San Elijo or Carlsbad... Both are very nice

Carlsbad State Beach and San Elijo for epic sunsets. Tough to get into both all year long but they do have cancellations if you're online at 8am you may get lucky. Campland for party time or Mission Bay Rv park for more of a quiet weekend. If you stay at Mission Bay you get access to Campland's amenities. There is a KOA in Chula Vista that is pretty nice and a new Rv park on San Diego Bay in Chula Vista that looks nice from the pics I have seen. Silver Strand is right on the beach but tough to get into, it's the same as Carlsbad and San Elijo.

Chula Vista Sun RV Resorts is a beautiful new RV park.  Lots of amentities, pool, bar, restaurant, etc.  No beach access though.

What everyone else said. I like silverstrand. I hate campland, its camping in the middle of a chithole city with a small piece of beach, never been there when there wasnt some sort of frat boy brawl. I hear the one in chula vista is nice, its pricey.

carlsbad is super nice, the best is the del mar campground on camp pendleton if you are a vet. Camped there once and it was the best beach camping experience.

The strand is nice though. Call regularly and you can sneak a cancellation

What about Vail Lake? Not San Diego but Temecula area, you could do some wine tasting.

Is the bar open now? The wife and I wanted to try that one out.
Take your bicycles. Lots of pike paths to ride. If up to it you can ride separated path from rv park all the way around south and up the strand, Take the ferry across the bay from Coronado and go to Seaport Village. You then can ride Bike lane down Harbor dr. around the marina at National City and back to rv park. Weekends are better for reduced traffic on Harbor dr.

BTW its Chula Vista Sun Resorts.

idk I was trying to stay close within a 3 hour drive max really.she will down for anything real besides sitting in my sxs yelling at me to slow down and take it easy or just sitting in camp reading a book.we not real beach people but she wants to see the west coast with the beaches and cliffs.im down to anything cuz if I make her happy she will be happy and thats important when I take her out there and its not often I take her.
