5th Wheel vs Bumper Pull

I don't know a single person that has had an 5th wheel want to go back to a tag!  Unless you are downsizing or need to carry more toys in the back of the bed.  A 45ft 5th wheel is easier to drive the a 24" tag everyday of the week, especially in the wind.

5th wheel with Reese Goosebox on my last two trailers, one was a 44' Wolfpack and the new one is a brand new 36' Genesis Supreme Vortex.  The Reese goosebox has an airbag inside that cushions the ride.  Yes its Lippert frame approved and leaves you with just a ball in the bed.  My best part is a double tow a 12' trailer behind and im only a couple feet over the 65' max.  Its nice to be able to tow two sxs, one inside and one on trailer behind.  Yeah yeah ill kill a bus load of nuns pulling doubles with a gooseball but at least i have a 1ton.  lol

75 foot is the max

It's funny you people are acting like you know Bansh.  He is the type of guy who would rather not go to the dunes then stay in a trailer, He doesn't even like tents and is happiest when he just sleeps on his flat bed trailer that he towed out to a remote location where nobody can camp within sight. Only reason it appears he is getting a trailer is his teenage daughters, If I know him he will probably sleep in the back of his truck and crap behind the bushes even once he has a trailer. Only way he buys a 30 or 40 5th wheel is he plans on putting it on his own land 100 miles away from civilization and living there

We will be seriously looking at a toyhauler in the new year.  22-30' +/-.

The wife and I are debating between 5th wheel and bumper pull.   We now have a 2500 Diesel.  Truck has the 5th wheel puck system setup.

Wife insists on a front sleeper as this will be used for events other than Glamis.

I prefer the thought of a bumper pull to keep the bed free for "stuff".  But I know there are towing benefits of a 5th wheel.

Opinions?  Pros, Cons?
5th wheel. Period. If it were just to have some amenities for the wife and kids on the boondocking trips then any clapped out bumper pull shitbox that doesn't leak would work but if you guys plan to use it for more than that, go 5'er. I'll never have another bumper pull RV. Biggest drawback to having a 5'er is the length and not being able to fit into state/fed campgrounds if that's a thing for you.

As far as reclaiming the bed of your truck, this is what I have https://pullrite.com/products/superlite - it's the opposite of the Anderson and I have had zero issues. They make them for both the gooseneck or bed rail setup, depending on what your truck has. I can 1-man lift that in and out all day long... biggest drawback is that friends don't have the same setup and I can't snatch their trailers from storage or vise versa... no actual drawback to the hitch itself.

This has been quite a consensus!  Wife is already preferring 5th wheel, for some reason.

When the time comes, I'll be back with questions because as of now, I have no idea about hitches.

*Quick, dumb question:  I assume the advertised "length" of a 5th wheel is the front nose to the rear?  Or is it from the hitch?  Or are those points the same?  Hitch/Front

If close to exact length is of remote concern I wouldn't trust anything printed, take a tape measure   ...was told my 39CSRG was 40'... turns out it's 43 and some change :blackeye:   ...from what I've seen the lengths are about as accurate as the old WW weights were :kick:

very true!  my Genesis Supreme Vortex 3219VXL measures 36'-10" end to end.

My driveway and property is just a bit janky to get in & out.  A buddy brought in his 44' 5th wheel and we had to cut down trees and remove fencing to get him in.  He ended up ripping off his rear ladder on exit.

30' I think is my limit for several reasons.

When you get out of Commiefornia.... all the trailers are gooses.....they haul tractors and horses and cows and Hay and all kinds of crap...they are all gooses....seems like the way to go.

That's a Bad-Ass system!

Don't get a Triple Axle, they will be too long and are a bitch if you have tight turns in drive way, etc.

Plenty of 28-30 foot 5th'rs out there.

The one I saw that cracks me up the most is this new one that has basement storage thru out the garage and the garage was at least 15' I want to say the trailer was advertised at 48'....

The part that cracked me up was dual axle so only 4 tires for the entire rig.

Well Buddy I can't really add any more wisdom then anyone else has already said in here.

When I bought my 5th wheel Shawn "headinjury" said just watch your speed because it tows so straight and he was right on every point.

However I did miss having the bed of the truck.I like my Bumper pull I have now because I have the bed of the truck to load whatever I need in it and Not think about or have to unload any of that Crap when I get where I am going just to set up the inside of the Trailer.

I do agree on the front bedroom set up and infact last March it was super windy and I had enough so the evening before I was going home I loaded the car up and was still able to use the living space inside the trailer fine even loaded up ready to go first thing in the morning.

Basically at the end of the day Get what makes your family the most comfortable and fits into the Budget and just go enjoy..

Fifth wheel no question!

I upgraded to a Genesis Special edition with dual bedroom slides and I have 18” on each side of the bed so plenty of room.

Also we went with the Gen Y executive goose box so I only have to drop the ball in my bed and I’m ready to go. Pull the ball out and I have my cell bed back. Yes I know the pic is upside down

Exact system I just got for my new Vortex, absolutely love it, I would never own a bumper pull again. If you do end up with a fifth wheel don't put any light cargo near the tailgate, it will get sucked right out.

I have about 20'  to the 1st cabinet and a front bedroom  in our bumper pull.

Its nice when we take trips to be able to lower the rear beds for the kids and have the front bedroom on the road.

If I didn't have kids machines to deal with fitting I definitely would go 5th wheel though.20210319_110312.jpg

Tag, 5th wheel, behind the truck you have and the lengths you're looking at, I don't think it'll matter that much with the correct hitch.  Floorplan matters more than how it connects, IMO.  Go to a lot or an RV show and sit in a bunch, figure out which floorplan you like, find each manufacturer's model # for that floorplan, and shop away.  The tag will be a little worse in the wind, so don't go that fast.

I've towed both.  5th wheel on a 2500, I had to get helper springs to keep it from wallowing like a pig, and I was always weighing chit to keep under axle ratings.  Tag axle, the trailer wanted to wander around more until I added a second friction sway control chingadera, but wasn't even close on axle weight rating.  After switching to a Husky Centerline, worked much better, but still got blown around a little.  I just slowed down if it was super windy, which isn't such a bad idea anyway.
