1st trip to Dumont (need to know's)

Reviving this thread… thinking about making a trip out to Dumont in the very near future. Where should you camp with a giant motorhome that can’t afford to get stuck?
As soon as you pass the ticket stand, up the hill make a hard left go 20 feet and park,

IF you have a issue and need help the quickest response would be Dumont Dune riders website or facebook,

quick tip, This is not Glamis so if you think it is steep on the side you are going up, then it is twice as steep on the other side, there are no rollers, everything is a razor back, the peaks are about 12'' wide,

Off weekends is a desert, No Venders on off weekends No Rangers on off weekends, so be prepared,

Also off weekends are pretty chill, sometimes you will not see a single person in the dunes,  Like i said pretty chill, no registrations on the car or the toyhauler,

Holiday weekends are pretty cool, besides Halloween is pretty much just fighting and loud music all night long, and SXS running through camp at full speed,

Thanksgiving is super chill, Rangers are pretty fun to dune with, they have 2 buggies, and will come by the larger camps to kill time,  47 years no tickets so far,

There hot button is SXS-with no helmets,

On a busy weekend is the dust in the camping areas similar to camping near vendors in glamis?

It depends on the wind, Dumont is always windy, so the dunes reset it self often,  We camp at C/D-1 if feel that side has less dust due to the wind direction,  a lot of people around the main road, on holiday, when you get past grid 6, if feel they get more dust, and when it is no breeze, yes the whole place is a dust bowl during sundown,

At Dumont be prepared to have more Windy days then non Windy days, if you are not ok with that, then you might not want to spend the time to go, after 47 years at Dumont the wind does not stop us,  you just wear eye protection around the fire, and do your thing, or hand out in a trailer, Seem like every night you hear the wind blow before sunup.

Looking at the Pics of Glamis, i dont think the Witch eyes are as bad as Glamis, they are a lot smaller at Dumont but everything is a razor back, and i remember one year they started a kiddy track, and the BLM smoothed it over with a loader after the weekend,

Kelley RV supplies Travel Trailer to rent,  and Lenard the wood guy will deliver wood to camp, and if a group is big enough and you let them Dune with you, there is a food vender that stays 2 weeks to a month at a time from Pahrump,  closest anything is Baker or Pahrump, both 25-30 miles away,

No Ranger or BLM on non Holiday weekends, so be prepared, medical is about 2-4 hours away if you need a Ranger or BLM Help,

If you get stuck or need help quickest response is to post on DDR, that should be the quickest response,

Also number one rule is, when you go up comp,  make a left never a right, Also into comp valley stay in the center if you cut the corner you will most likely be in a head on collision,  It is only about 4 cars wide and both sides are 15 foot dunes,  every holiday that is where a good portion of peeps get hurt,

*Locals off weekend,  drive in the exit road, (No speed bumps )

*Non Locals, drive in the entrance 5mph for 10 minutes fighting the speedbumps then F### with the ticket counter for 30 minutes, then realize it doesn't work LOL

@dbart Pictures - First Picture is the ground with all the Rock, STAY ON THOSE ROCKS - HARD AS CONCRETE, 3 picture is no rocks, that is as soft as quicksand,

Haven't been in awhile. There's a narrow guage r/r out there and not sure of the correct term but it's  a longitude/latitude (plat?) market. Some things come and go depending on which way the strongest winds blow. Lots of fun for a low key trip.

1). Take your time going in on that long road. The vibration will rattle your fillings, nuts and bolts loose.

2). We camp back by the cliff on the west side for 2 reasons. The Verizon Cell tower is much stronger over there, and usually the wind blows west to east so you will cause dust instead of ingest it.

3). Camping up close by the dues is cool and all, but then you get squids flying by your camp at 50MPH heading to the dunes so the further back you are the less activity you get.

4). Even though the dunes are very limited compared to Mother G, there is a lot of stuff to explore as peeps have mentioned here

@HTElectrical I felt the same, it has been paved for some time,  Might be smaller than some dunes but the bowls are larger and the pure sand straights are large, you will run mostly in 4th gear at high speeds in the dunes at Dumont,  if you car last a week at Dumont it will last anywhere,

Yeah I was kind of bummed that we are going to Glamis for the last trip of the season, but since I have never been, guess I need to go at least once.
