My group is planning on going to Dumont for the 1st time. I need the run down on where to camp with a big group of motor homes w/ trailers. (Also where to avoid) What are the go to stops to see? Do you need a pass? Im sure I can google most of this but I thought I'd ask on here. All info you think we should know is welcome.

@J Alper would know for certain.

there is a big thing going on this coming weekend.

This is what you need to save in your phone. Really there is no "bad" spot to camp, everyone has their preference for one reason or another.

Buy a pass at the KIOSK/Pay Station or at local gas station in Baker.

@Dynamicdude

Here is a grid map of the main area.

You will come in through the bottom part of the map.

The river crossing is no big deal so don't worry about that. You'll pass the ranger station where you will need a pass.

You'll wind up the dirt road to this plateau...my group usually goes to the left and parks by Station 12 or in that general area. It is flat and you don't worry about getting stuck.

Pics show views of the dunes from our camp.

As for riding, you can actually go all the way around the dunes as it is relatively small. There are destinations, North Pole, South Pole and there are also trails all around.

The dunes are pretty steep and can be intimidating, but try to find a group that can lead you on some runs.

There is a town called Tecopa which is North of Dumont.

There is a Brewery called Death Valley Brewing that has great food and accessible by side x side. Did that trek in my rhino and thought I was gonna run out of gas by the time we goat back to camp. :lmao:

Also, I duned my rhino all over dumont, but just had to be picky on lines with that whopping 27 HP. LOL

Some more pics are included of North Pole...It's cool. Kids leave notes For Santa...

on the camp area, when driving to a spot,  on the above pics, the pics with the bigger rocks on the ground-that is hard ground, smother the area softer the dirt, when driving stay on the bigger rocks, its like concrete, smooth stuff is like quicksand

I did not know about the brewery! Definitely gonna need to go to Death Valley mining in tecopa! Dumont is easy and one of my favorite places to ride. So much variety and can always make it back to camp. A real issue for me.

Death Valley Brewing...ooops I made a Typo.

Here is it:

Here it is on a map.

Not sure what trails we took, but it was an awesome adventure.

We passed by some naked tweakers at an old abandoned car, a couple mines, hot springs.

There's a lot out there.

:laugh1:

Limited to no cell signal last time I went.. which was 9 years ago. .. so might be wrong.

Rangers are VERY COOL to us when we were there. SOOO OPPOSITE of Glamis. They are actualy there to HELP you enjoy your vacation, ITS a Great Feeling!

:poule:

Have not been in awhile. Might be time for a trip after new years. Can you still camp in the little dunes?

angrybuttcrack they updated/added new cell towers about 2yrs ago. still not great and get over loaded on the big weekends

dbart you went out the speary wash trail thru the mines then down furnace creek rd

Regarding the brewery, can u follow the riverbed straight from Dumont or do you have to swing out and around to the east thru the mines to Furnace Creek Road?

Reviving this thread… thinking about making a trip out to Dumont in the very near future. Where should you camp with a giant motorhome that can’t afford to get stuck?

We took trails pretty much the whole way. There is a portion at the end where you are on the road and form what my friends told my on the last trip, the cops let them go with a warning but said they would confiscate or impound sxs's if they see them on the road!

:simrak:  There is literally nothing out there and it is like  1/4 mile on the road.

May want to call the place and get coordinates as I don't know the exact trails to take.

Stick around Bathroom 10. That's where we stay, all of us have motorhomes in our group. You still have to plot your coarse in . Just like Alper said the soft spots are like quick sand. I did manage to get stuck over Thanksgiving but did get out fairly easy. The dune area is small but the dunes are really fast and fun. The razor backs can be intimidating just always take them at an angle a commit to it.
