1967 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

Going to do a very cool build and most likely put it on a Morrison Chassis. 4.8 LS motor moved back in the chassis. Turbo at probably 7-10 psi boost. 550-600 HP. Big tires, roll cage. Corbeau Forza seats with 5 points. Truck has been sitting like this in the pics for 10 years in a field in Oklahoma. It is getting picked up today and I should have it tomorrow. I have this whole thing dreamed up in my head. Only big issue will be larger wheel wells for bigger front tires and moving the seats up. That is where I am thinking the Forza seats should work. V-Dog 90 degree box for the steering. No title so I will be getting a Vermont title with just the bill of sale. A good friend and customer told me about this. VIN Check showed clean on the NICB search. Truck will be here from OK tomorrow and I need to go meet the driver at the shop in the evening. Lets just hope I have metal to weld to or I just spent $4k plus $1500 for shipping for some rust. 

I will drool on it but not start any work until I get the title in hand from Vermont.

Just bought this little diecast off ebay. How cool is that. I still need some sort of cool dodge emblem or logo to hang off the dogs neck in the back.

Well, I got the last one of these. Would be cool as the dogs pendant since I was thinking about a vintage weathered Coke ice chest in the back. Damn they are pricey. This one has a nice look.

Was thinking about expanded metal for the bed so you can see the 4 bar setup and morrison chassis underneath. If I do wood it would be old beat up planks from scaffolding. Spatter some paint and stain on the planks. Here is a truck with a 440 and the motor moved back a little bit. I am thinking as far back as we can go with an 18" driveshaft. Motor plus a 4L80E. Trans. And ditch the plexiglass. lol. Bed will be a lot higher since the body is getting dropped way down. Depending how far I can move the front wheel wells up I would like to have the bottom of the truck 5"-6" from the ground. On springs not bags.

At the 3:00 of this vid you can see the front fenderwell. To my knowledge there has never been one of these done to accept the size front tires I want. Every truck I have ever seen has very small front tires and wheels. So a larger and taller wheel tub installed. And would have to cut away part of the door as well and then leave the weatherstrip surface alone.  I think this will be the trickiest part of this project.

So what I am saying is cut away the door in this area. Really depends on what is behind that panel and 6 screws and can the door latch and assembly be re-engineered. Or is the glass in the way.

The Corbeau Forza sits lower and would mount right on top of the new well. No slider or adjustment.  Won't be able to raise the seating position much from stock so guessing I will need 6" here after the new wells are installed. Just a guess. We will see.

My dad and I went to a lot of car shows together. He liked to wear his car shirts. I am going to cut these up and have them sewn into a pattern. Then attached/glued to a board. This will be the headliner for the truck. That along with the dog welded from car parts he made as well.

These trucks are a unibody construction. I have never done anything like this so already wondering how much you cut away to drop the body down on the new chassis. Channel it and try save some of the unibody construction? Or gut it and build all new framing to mount the body? This will be a mega job for sure. Even when I get the frame it will have no tabs for the engine, trans, bumpers, mounts of any kind to bolt the body down. Most of these with V8s you take the motor in and out through the front door. I am thinking to build removable mounts so the motor and trans will drop out the bottom. Way easier.

Ride height on this one is pretty cool. But maybe not quite this low. This truck will have a factory ac compressor and Vintage air setup. I am hoping to drive it a lot and it needs to get over curbs. Of course there is very little overhang with such a short truck.  Need to incorporate a custom hitch to be able to keep the ball in the stock location. Oh and that OK license plate gets put somewhere on the truck. Even if it is hidden somewhere.

Cage will be built to spec so I can take this thing on a road course if I want. From the front cage I want to run bars back like one of these trucks. Once I am looking at it that determination can be made how to do it. Probably a 20-25 gallon fuel tank behind the rear axle. Battery in the back also. Once the body is on the chassis and the cage is built we can mock the motor and trans and put some scales on each corner. It will be very interesting where the balance comes in. Might even have to look at a different trans depending on length. Just moving the motor and trans 6" I bet makes a big difference.

Stage 2 or stage 3 Sloppy cam. I will probably lean toward the smaller cam for more low end power. Depends on the trans and rear gear. It will get a stall converter. Probably around 2800. And yes the exhaust from the the turbo and BOV will be short! My neighbors will love it.

Probable what and all you will run in to is the window will not lower all the way down. I take it your idea is to do this on the inside of the outer door skin. Leaving the outside of door and dog leg of the body looking stock?

My step moms newest thi g to do is to make small spring/fall blankets out of old Hawaiian shirts.  I thought it was kind of goofy (which she is, lol) but the one she had with her looked cool.  I bet that idea of yours will work out great.
