Mac is correct in that everything gets touched and replaced. I replaced every nut and bolt, hiems, brake pad, wiring, and so on. The only things not replaced were the chassis, arms, axles, and hubs. It's crazy... but that's also why these rebuilds are trying to fetch the cost of a new car. For all purposes, it really is a new car, the time and money spent on the older car, you could've had a new car.

Live and Learn I guess... I won't do it again that's for sure. I love everything that I did to my car, but I could've had a true Gen6 had I listened to several people's warnings lol.

Went thru this exact deal with my Funco. Hell, I could be driving a new F9 for the cost of the road I've traveled. Grant told me, I heard him, I just didn't listen.

After riding in @wesinls car this past weekend I am a believer! This car handled anything you could throw at it and rode amazing even over all the chatter bumps

I certainly think @Mac would feel a huge difference with some internal bypass on his car and since he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to finish it, they would be a great investment!
 
I just make sure my shocks are topped off with nitrogen now and those chatter bumps are pretty much non-existent.

Mac, love your rebuild, a work of art.

A few years ago while planning this rebuild, I researched shocks and wanted to go with internal bypasses. The issue is my car doesn't have much room to give in the shock/suspension areas. This would have been a major redesign and lots of fab to get it right. I would have also had to have the shocks custom made as the off-the-shelf ones were all too long to fit.

What I did do...I rebuilt the shocks and removed the remote reservoirs and converted them to piggybacks and was able to find 2.0 bridges with dual speed adjusters. It gives me as close to internal bypass as I can get. The other thing in my favor is my car is really light and doesn't really need bigger shocks. The 5 link works really well too. The only area I really give up is long, fast, straight aways or the first 100 yards of shooting the hill. The rear is so light, it will skip side to side. I might be able to play with the adjustment and work some of that out, but...I'm not a hill shooter and other than a run or two, I don't run the drags. The car is setup and performs great duning. If I need "more", I'll hit up Shock Talk and have him tune them, maybe bump the springs up a little too. All in all, my car has a great ride as it is.

You definitely had a longer-traveled road than me. Funny though, Grant told me the same thing (and I didnt listen either) when I was buying stuff, he even talked to me about the cost of a base new Gen6 and how I would almost be right there in dollars spent... Hindsight is always 20/20...
 
As some may know, I am currently (see build thread) building a new 2025 Extreme Performance DR1 Car and I got in at the $125K Base Build Price (disclaimer; I added some upgrades...no longer a Base Build Price! ;)) .... now that same Base Build starts at $135K....from the beginning of Extreme releasing the new DR1 Allan was upfront saying the first (10) builds were at the introductory price to get the cars out there and in the dunes for everyone to check out.
Hands down, the car comes very well equipped for the Base Build Price, 550Hp LS3, S4 Trans w/ Chevy Bell Housing for the BIG clutch, Holley Electronics, 3.0 / 2.5 KINGS with Bypasses, Full Body, JetTrim Seats, KC Lights, OMF Beadlocks and the list goes on and on......How can Allan do this in today's market.....Have you seen his shop/setup....the Dude can do 90% of the car all in-house, he has an Engine Building Room that looks better than most of the engine builders we all know, he has his own in-floor Chassis Dyno, he cuts his own aluminum, laser cutting machine, King Adam The Great does all of the final aluminum bodies...and the list goes on and on.
I looked at SCU, Funco and SU....for the money and lead time (4-5 months) is was a no brainer to go with Extreme Performance....and If you've been watching the new DR1's are performing really well in Glamis, Allan and his Team have been hitting it hard out there to show what the cars can really do.....I'll keep you posted on the progress of my car....should start kicking into high gear soon!

Sounds like a great car for a good price compared to some others. I have a new Funco build on their shop floor right now so I am keenly aware of the costs there. Of course, not the same car and has lots more power, bigger trans, more stuff, etc. So you can't really compare the two just on cost and I have zero regrets going with Funco thus far. But sure sounds like you are getting a great car at a good value in today's market. Congrats!
 
Just like boats I do t think a sand rail builder wants to do a lower cost entry car when a more expensive build can be done with a little more effort and bring way more profit.

Depends on what you want as far as price. You can get a new build for less than that. And current wait time is just under a year as last reported a few months ago. When I shopped it last year I found Funco was actually less than most other high-end builders and wait time was shorter. I'm not suggesting you're going to get something from them in the price ranges discussed above but you don't have to spend $275k either.

I'm on the fence regarding an IBS upgrade on my 2-seat mid-engine Subi/2D SU after coming from a 3500# car with 3.0 Kings, will they really make a difference? Some have told me it's not worth the money.

Post the total length of your shocks as well as the shaft lengths...and some picture of how the shocks mount...
It was worth every penny in my book.
As @Mac mentioned above you are going from a 2.0 to a 2.5 on the front - in my case it still fit, but barely.
On the rears I went from a 2.5 to a 3.0, and due to the width being more I had to use offset misalignment spacers, but it fit. Your car being lighter you could get away with 2.5's in the rear too I'd imagine.
I took a long time and made sure it would all work before I bought anything...Luckily, I had a CAN-AM where I was able to make sure a 2.5 would fit on the rear (from a thickness perspective) - same for the rears.
