Hello everyone, I am a year into owning my first rail. It’s an 06 desert dynamic. It has an ls3 with LS1 heads and truck intake ( that’s how it came when I bought it built by CBM) looking to run a better intake with LS3 ported rectangular heads a new cam and throttle body. Any suggestions? Or advice on what works best in the dunes. Transmission is a 2D

Sound advise from @lincster.
The intake you have is fine. Not much to gain on that swap. What was the engine built for originally?

originally the car came with an LS1 but the previous owner blew the motor. Sent the car to CBM and they built an LS3 but used the LS1 heads and intake. When I bought the car last year the owner gave me all the paperwork for the car. It included CBM build sheet and dyno of the LS3

CBM builds good engines. We all have the HP itch. Always someone faster than you and if you drive another car with more HP it's hard to not want the same.
Post up some car pictures. Let's we what your playing with.

To use the LS3 intake would would have to use LS3 heads or get adapters. They are not a direct fit.

If you put ls3 heads on it the factory ls3 intake is hard to beat, aftermarket intakes won’t gain any power below 5800 rpm generally and they lose low end torque, opposite of what we want on sand cars!

But like lincster said, leave it alone to help preserve that 2d!

If the motor is running strong and no issues...just run it!
As others have mentioned, DD cars are stout, your 2D is already being worked.
If you plan to keep the car maybe upgrade to a S4/5 Trans. For a 06 car has the suspension been gone through?
I am big on suspension first; it makes you faster and safer in the dunes.
Post some pics, we love to see pics!

My plan was to get suspension gone through as well as doing small upgrades to LS3. It has the CBM computer and I bought a Holley set up for it as well as a Holley screen. I wanted to go with a different intake, LS3 rectangular ported heads, cam and throttle body and a tune of course

nice car, they weigh around 3k lbs.

i question the "built an ls3" without ls3 heads. whats the build sheet for the engine have on it? did they use an ls3 block? or just bore and stroke the ls1?

So they used LS3 block and all internals are from LS3. I take it the guy didn’t want to spend money on heads or an intake and they used his LS1 heads and intake or he must of bought the short block from CBM (I think that’s what they call it)

thats good. when you want some more power do a set of aftermarket ls3 heads and intake, but youll need to upgrade from the 2d to a sequential first with the weight of the car and the increased power from ls3 heads.

that is a standard CBM thing
and the then kept the ls3 heads to put on there ls7 blocks

What would be the limit of a 2d hp wise
