Glamis Specific Plan

GLAMIS WEATHER
A friend of mine who owns property is Ocotillo pointed out that there are similar items in Ocotillo (hotel, RV parks, etc) that help enhance the experience there, rather than detract from it. Glass can be half full.

Huge difference though, private owner's vs corporation.

I'd honestly rather have small family owners like when Glamis started, vs the direction this is going.... it's going to happen, only matter of when. Too much money to be made for those that have deep enough pockets like Polaris.

The things this proposal has that IMHO will destroy Glamis

Camping Reservations, Designated Spaces (I'm not talking about areas)
Corporate Structures, Event Areas, Maintenance Yards and Employee Bunkers

I actually think the onsite RV Storage was the start of the decline of Glamis. Storage should have never been an option, but that is private land so oh well.

Never had an issue with GBS, Vendors or how things used to be before, pizza, showers, even gas.

When did Polaris purchase the property, 2023? The plan was most likely a requirement of Imperial County in order to purchase and permit the property. Environmental impact studies, traffic studies (for the under crossing and traffic light) AQMD permits, engineering, sanitation and on and on and on. Years before this could become a reality IMO.

True, but the plans don't show a 10 story Hilton, so maybe it'll be owned by PoPo, but look like Ocotillo?

No choice but to wait and see. We're on this train now...

Can you imagine the challenge of finding, training, maintaining the labor / staff to run a decent size hotel at Glamis? Inconceivable! Unless you pay really well and then good luck at being profitable. A small family run hotel with low construction costs (does that exist now in CA?) would potentially be possible.

They had to get the plan approved for the county to re-zone the property. Some things may happen and most likely will not due to feasibility, but they have a gov approved plan should they decide to make some changes.

The zoning on the property prohibited certain activities. They were limited to the amount of "events" that happened on the property, something like less than 5 a year.... Camp RZR was one, MLK Cleanup, even our small deal that we do for the flag run was counted as an event. They were also not allowed camping on the property and Devin would limit us to the amount of rigs, even volunteers, that we could get inside the gates for the weekend.

Re-zoning and a plan for water and power were the biggest reasons. Nothing much else happens without those first and water and power alone are no small task.

I remember in the Compound days someone said that the nearest point of connection for power was at the mine, They refurbished and replaced diesel generators and have been fueling them up for over 10 years. That was cheaper than running power down the 78.

Water, well the rumor on the street was in order to get a filtration system that would allow the new well to provide potable water was going to be more than the power infrastructure, seems the mine has contaminated the ground water.

The amount of diesel consumed by those gennys in a calendar year is literally insane and they keep'm running 24/7 365. And yea, the mine and the leech field runoff and the agriculture runoff and and and ...the water is not potable and pretty fkin terrible out there for several reasons.

Explains all the solar installations they had drafted in each redesigned area.
