School me on sand cars lol

Nah. I had a NA Honda with a 2d. The 2d lasted a decade between rebuilds and I am on the turning brake just about every turn…
That being said, I spent a lot on money on transmissions in the SCORE series
because "Some" team drivers did not know how to drive. Yanking that turning brake never ends well. Keep in mind, many are 1000 klicks or so. Glamis, yank it.

Thing with the cars you need to be able to work on them yourself for most things or have the money to pay someone to fix it and that ain’t cheap.

Shocks are actually simple to rebuild. Cv service takes time and messy but not hard either. Trans and engine will need to be pulled for service of trans etc. then the mentioned bearings bushings too.

I've had my car 15 years. I have put about 10K a year in it over that time. From 550hp originally to 600+ when I had it stroked to a 425, then to 825hp with a blower. Replaced my Albins synchromesh to a 5 speed sequential. I think normal cars would be about 3 to 5K a year to keep going. Upgrades = $$$$$ Structure of the car has been awesome. Still have the original heims and bushings in the frontend. Only replaced the trailing arm ones. About 800 miles per year. Replace CV's about every other year. The car is about due for a few more updates but nothing major. I do a lot of the maintenance work myself. Big stuff goes to the shop sometimes. It has its own trailer with all the necessities to keep in going when out playing in the dunes. Used to take it to the desert but don't have another driver for fifth wheel. Don't want to get a motorhome. Don't want to keep it where I sleep. It stinks. lol. Mainly the tires. Other than lots of fun and maintenance, go get one!
PS. I don't drive it like an old lady! It will take anything I can through at it. lol Not all cars are built this way so search around. And don't hesitate to ask for opinions on here.

Good luck!

As the title states , I’ve had can ams for years and want to get into a sand car, Budget of 50k. A lot of the used cars have so many different options as far as transmission / motor / axles etc. what should I stay away from? Would love a SC or turbo car but can do a NA LS and build it later too. Any advice is appreciated.
I will have a Monster Manx MX2 available in your price point shortly. LS stroker motor, Mendeola 2D (just gone thru) , Bypass on all corners, boxed arms , sway bar , paddles and dirt tires. Will have some pictures when i hang a new body on it.

I have had 4 buggy's, I use the turning brake every ride. I have never broken a gear or spider gears in any tranny. We are talking over 500 days (roughly 15,000 miles) of duning.
My last few cars have been 2 seat mid engine with turning brakes. I use the turning brake handle to hang my hat so it doesn’t blow away.
