AZ ID/license = Forever

Real ID/license after 5 years = Not real anymore

It's not for the weak! When I went in, their system had just glitched and they couldn't help anyone with DL/ID issues. Half the place cleared out! I was relieved

Unfortunately that’s for the standard driver license. The Real ID requirement means renewal every 5 years to meet the federal law.

I guess I should switch it back to the basic ID.

Many years ago, ( the 1970s) the DMV had a fire. This fire killed the computers and most of the data.
It took 18 months to get my license back. And the license was hand made, not with the original computer system. I was stopped one night, the cop saw that I has some cash in my wallet. It was New Years eve, and I had my bonus in the wallet. He really wanted to ticket me for a fake license and confiscate the cash. He kept asking the radio it it was real, they repeated several times, YES it's real. I kept my money and no ticket. Yes, they still try to do that. Ask me over a beer for that story. Yes, I re upped my license a few days ago, they said 3 to 5 weeks. (WTF?)
