I have to ask because i dont know

Yep. If they can't confirm the driver, they can't confirm the foul.
If he had his phone on him, they can nab him. Friend of a friend got nailed this way running at well over 150mph. They used the time to connect to towers to confirm it was him and the speed he was going. Basically just looked for anyone who was connecting to towers in quick succession, then cross-referenced DMV records for the car.

He got away clean, no license plate. Cell phone, plus silly texts afterwards bragging about it, were what did him in.

Cellular network and your iPhone track everything, literally.

Ask yourself how many apps have GPS trackers built into them, more then you even realize.

I ran from the Cops back in 1999, when tech was old.

They still won.

We were in Carlsbad Street racing and I was the chosen one... after the Cop pulled over the Mustang I was racing. I took off, he chased after me and I got away from him pretty easily.

I did not however... get away from his two buddies up the road. They stopped me, pulled me out at Gunpoint and set my ass on the curb. They were cool, laughing at the dummies 4 wheeling their lowered Civics to get away. They guy that I got away from was not so chipper and almost beat the shit out of me, but his pals held him back... "He smoked you in that Honda, get over it! 🤣 "

I went to court, fought the ticket and the Cop didn't show up. I won, but still earned/learned my life lesson.

Had a buddy on his street bike decide to take a solo trip up to Flag. At the time it would have been the longest trip he had made on a street bike. He went solo because he was going to take his time stop along the way etc. He made it up to Camp Verde having done mostly the speed limit, just cruising along with traffic an occasional speed up to get around some cars and trucks but nothing to raise any concerns. Well as he is heading down the off-ramp about 15 street bikes all roll up behind him and they all go the the gas station. . As soon as my buddy takes off his helmet 5-0 is everywhere. Guess that big group had been hauling the mail up the I-17.
Even though my buddy never knew the other riders and told the cops that he was rolling solo they only told him he could fight it in court and he should be considering himself lucky the bike wasn’t getting impounded and him going to jail for everything from exhibition of speed to running from the law.
Well he fought it and won, his lawyer basically had the cop admit that they didn’t know exactly how many people were in the group or if he had seen any other riders pass him riding within the law.

What did they charge you with? It couldn't have been DUI, because the cops saw you drinking in your garage right? I wrecked my first Harley one night while I was pretty tuned up. I was able to get away from the scene, and I was dropped off at the hospital. As they are scrubbing the asphalt out of me and stitching me up everywhere (no pain meds because I am drunk), cops come in and start the questioning. At first I just denied it was me, said a buddy borrowed the bike, they weren't buying it. Finally I said, look, I crashed the bike, as you can see I'm in a lot of paint, so I stopped by the house before I came to the hospital and drank a fifth of whiskey. There was no way to prove I was drunk and riding as they were not on scene. I did get hit with leaving the scene of a injury accident, but I told the judge it was me who was injured (single vehicle crash), and that I only left to get to the hospital. Judge told me I got lucky this time

The answer to that is every felony and misdemeanor they could.. lol. But no dui wasn’t one of them.

Evading
Excessive speed over 20 mph above speed limit
Wreckless driving
Failure to stop

Running a stop sign

I can’t remember all of it but it was quite the list. They dropped half of them before we really got started then offered the “deg” to drop the rest of them.

That guy that drove yore SPEED didn't own up? what a POS that douchebag is and his buddy that vouched for him.

Own up or pay up, that driver needs to make you right $$

No he didn’t.. the other guy has lost more business than what I spent but personally I am out 13-14.

Live and learn.

My shenanigans were pre-internet.

So yes and no..

The first thing all the lawyers I interviewed for my situation said was (in legal speak). Get a new phone..

I told them I wasn’t in the car and if anything it woulda prove my innocence.

In the case of your buddy I’d wager he voluntarily gave them the phone under pressure.

No plate no other evidence??

Getting a warrant for a cellular company to cooperate is a nightmare for authorities. If they somehow end up with the actual phone and a passcode then your fucked.

Part of the harassment of my friends in my situation was the detectives talking to my friends that they had found out were in the car weeks prior.. I believe they got that from traffic cameras and local city cameras.

However the lesson learned is if you are gonna do some crime ditch the phone and don’t put anything in text..

Which takes us full circle to Tyler texting his trans lover every detail of shooting Charlie Kirk.. makes that whole thing a little unbelievable.

They pulled the cell tower records and his text messages from the phone company, which they already had when they charged him.

iMessages, yes, that would be impossible without the phone. SMS, however, is plain-text and easily gathered via warrant.

I dunno I’m not a lawyer but from my understanding cell companies typically don’t cooperate with law enforcement..

Without a warrant, yes.

With a warrant, they absolutely do.

And get paid for it:

I look forward to reading this later! Trying to get packed up and head back to havasu soon

I am gonna make a long story slightly less long..

I don’t drink and drive. I have had private limos and even a party bus. kids on the payroll, I have camel tow on speed dial to tow my truck home for 100.00. I just don’t do it. It just isn’t worth the fucking headache in the modern world.

So that said rewind a bit here.. I’m one of the first guys to have a speed car in Havasu. At the time there was maybe four in town so everyone was really curious about them.

It’s Friday and I went off-roading for a bit with a friend of mine.. when we are done I run down to the mavericks and grab a bunch of beer and smokes etc.. it’s 7:00 pm at this time.

Head back to the house and I am drinking in the garage with some friends.

Around 9:00 pm the texts are coming in that there is a huge bonfire up at bison flats and we should come up there. I’m probably 10+ beers in at this point so I’m not driving shit. A friend comes over with his chick and he says he will drive.

We take the car to bison cooler loaded etc.. we get up there and people are asking to go for a ride in the car or drive the car.. I’m pretty open about it so sure go ahead. Just don’t beat on it like a red headed stepchild.

In total that night about seven different people drove the car.. most of them just took a quick lap around bison flats for a minute or two.

Well this guy came up and hit me up to go drive it, I don’t know this guy but a friend kinda vouched for the guy.. he takes off and runs down the hill and is gone for I dunno maybe a beer or beer and a half by my clock.

He gets back and it comes out that he was gonna go hit a liquor store for something and had gotten rolled and decided he would just run back up the hill. As it was described to me he was super close to the trailhead so he just turned around and hit the dirt and was gone..

So I’m sitting there kinda assessing the situation and the car is new so there’s no license plate on it.. it’s a factory wrap and nothing with my brand on it.. that said it’s a rare car for havasu.

I decide I'm not gonna take any chances so I decide my buddy and I are gonna drive the car to a friends place that’s nowhere near the entrance to bison flats Offroad. Ditch the car and have my limo pick me and my buddy up and go home where we continue drinking the night away.

Around 6-7 am there’s banging in my garage door so I open it and there’s the cops.. “where’s the car?” I explain that I am not going to answer any questions.. “come outside we want to talk to you”. (My biggest mistake was walking outside, shoulda just closed the garage door at that point.

I walk outside they hook me up and take me to jail. I spent the night in the clink..

DA looks at the case and drops it due to lack of evidence. (This is county because they handle felonies).

Ok no worries.. city attorney picks up the case and files all the charges again? wtf?

She cites that a cop had seen me drive the car at 7pm to the mavericks while he was filling out paperwork across the street. I said you are right he probably did see me.

Here is a VIDEO of the car leaving my house later that night with me getting in the passenger seat? Which kinda removes any thoughts that it couldn’t be someone else later?

Nope the cops googled speed and the number on the side of the car and saw a pic of you and claims it was you driving the car..

Stop and think about that for a second.

Ok now that you have thought about it, the cops googled speed saw “someone” for less than a half a second that was white with brown hair and wearing glasses.

I’m white.. I always wear a hat, and don’t wear glasses unless I’m reading.

Anyhow there is a reason they use line ups, and multiple photographs to identify for witnesses because if you show one person suddenly that becomes the person they saw..

So 10k for the lawyer and here we go.. he writes a giant dismissal letter etc etc.. city atty says they are pressing on more or less because “it’s me” but they are offering up what is called a DEG.
Deferred entry of guilt.. what that means is the whole case gets set aside and if you don’t get in trouble for 12 months they just throw it in the trash.

I’m uber pissed because now I have gone to jail for something I didn’t even do..

Long talk with lawyer he says the case is weak and anticipates innocent verdict but there are no guarantees with juries..

His major concern it’s Mohave county. Meaning everyone is fuck the government but they are crazy “back the blue”. He recommends I take the deg, but is very confident in trial.

I took the DEG just because it was a certainty on the outcome. As well this could get crazy expensive going to trial in which case I’m gonna have to sue to get the $$ back etc.

That said the cops get their badge in a Cracker Jack box in Havasu. I had several of my friends and coworkers harassed over the following weeks by detectives trying to get them to say it was me.. half these people weren’t even there that night?

The guy that vouched for the particular person is a big name shop in havasu. I won’t use his shop anymore because his fuckwad buddy literally just absolved himself of any liability.

Some say I shoulda told the cops who he is.. I wasn’t raised that way.

Anyhow there’s your story on static after the fact..

I could go on as to how the cop that was in the initial Chase was down in Parker the next weekend bragging to his friends and showing them video that he chased RiverDave etc.. and a whole host of shit to go with it.

I wasn’t even in the car when it happened. I often wonder if I made the right choice not to goto trial because the whole thing still pisses me off.

Seeing the cops lie their asses off. Going down to the police station to try to get a copy of the video which they wouldn’t give to me.. the whole thing was a very odd experience and completely destroyed my confidence in our local law enforcement.

They actually wanted me to goto arraignment with zero discovery etc.. that was about the time I called the lawyer.

I dunno if I made the right decision or not.. at the time I took certainty over unknown, but like I said it still makes my blood boil.. even typing this post made me angry.

You are way too kind. The guy used your car and ran. Let that person suffer the consequences of his actions.

An Old Lead Singer in the band one night was heading home with his GF, I guess he made a few what people called unsafe passes and was driving like an A-hole. Popo was called plate was given. Popo went directly to his house parked and waited, As soon as he opened the garage door it was lights and they pulled in front of his driveway. All they could do with the reckless driving was have a conversation, that led to stupid human tricks on the sidewalk, He failed that portion of the interview and went to jail for DUI.

Guy at work moved from the small Texas town to Az. because of a running from the cops charge. The way he tells the story of living in this small town where he lived on the outskirts on the other side of the tracks litterly. Seems by the time he was 25 he not only knew all of the cops by name he also knew the two new deputies, and they knew him having gone to school together from the 3rd grade on.
In this small town the train ran thru the middle and if you got stuck on one side it could be a while before you could get back across. Well he was heading home from the grocery store had to take a crap and saw the train coming, so he had to do a couple of quick turns and take a couple of dirt roads to get out in front of the train, make it across the tracks just in front of the train. Made it home ran inside drop the kids off at the pool walked back outside and half the police force is jumping out of the squad cars. Guess that before he decided to haul ass in front of the train they wanted him to stop, he never saw them.
He got a big fine and 30 days, drove to Az. worked for me got the money for the big fine, went back turned himself in and did his 30 days then moved away from that small Texas town.

I am not in the habit of snitching on people for any reason. Reality is I let a guy I know use something of mine and he used it alright..

Like I said live and learn.

No shit. Rando I don't know decides to run from the PoPo in my ride and then hand the keys back to me without any offer to catch the heat if it goes that way... Nope. Sorry. Not playing that game. Shouldn't have done stupid shit to win me stupid prizes.
