Haha, what do you think GD.com is?Eff Social Mafia
I get that, but what censorship is present here? Are the admins filtering out comments based on their bias/agenda?? Moreover, and to be brutally honest, if the internet disappeared tomorrow I wouldn't give a flying fuck.Haha, what do you think GD.com is?
For $34 I am not clicking on anything, not worth getting hacked
Now, not much.I get that, but what censorship is present here? Are the admins filtering out comments based on their bias/agenda?? Moreover, and to be brutally honest, if the internet disappeared tomorrow I wouldn't give a flying fuck.

There all are different, thus the reason I am here and have been from 2001. But they are all a form of social connection online Personally I have learned a lot of Sandrail stuff in the early days from GD.com, when I started on this board I had a Banshee, then a VW powered rail, and now 3 buggies later, I learned a lot along the way, so I do agree they are different. I blame this board for part of the addiction.................haha. But to me they are all a different form of social media, just like X is different than Instagram and all feed a different want.Well there is a distinct different between Social Media and Traditional Forums from my perspective..
Some Major differences right off the bat
GD.com is a General platform by a single ownership that is the same as all forums being a "Free Exchange of ideals and ideas between people". Those thoughts and ideas are all shared on a singular platform in the form of conversation etc..
Social Media - Each user gets their own platform that competes with the other users platforms. The only similarity is again the platform is not owned by the user itself.
GD / RDP - Other forums - Every user see's the same content as they navigate the platform. (There is slight exceptions in cases of extreme moderation). This encourages again the free exchange of ideas and different opinions even if the end view points are similar.
Social Media - The Feeds run algorithms to show you what you would like to see (whether you realize it or not), in order to get you to spend more time on their platform. This creates much smaller spheres, echo chambers, and honestly a dangerous environment as a whole as to how the end user receives and digests the information received. This leads to crazy herd mentality / Asch Experiment etc..
GD / RDP - Forums - There is no real reward for posting content other than the interaction with a fellow user / inmate. This creates the production of content based on the basics of a social contract.
Social Media - Rewards such as likes, followers, etc.. add a small euphoric (dopamine) hit, which encourages participation regardless of the content in search of more reward. This tends to remove the quality of the content, and meaningfulness, or hell even ethics from the equation as the goal isn't to interact with your fellow member / inmate, but rather to find reward for yourself through any means necessary.
GD / RDP - Forums - They are indexable and searchable for past content. Things like build threads, and historical context matter into the future and are easily accessible.
Social Media - Historical Posts are often removed (Content not available) depending upon which way the political winds are blowing with regard to censorship. As well historical accurate information on anything from Build threads, to world events is very difficult to search and revive for future reference.
So while they both might be on a screen, they are very different animals in my mind. Forums aren't social media.. Even though Social Media are now trying to become forums (See Threads etc..).
Each have their place.. One is insta gratification, the other is ironically enough more social because of it's inherent nature. Both can be extremely satisfying if you know what they are going in, and how you intend to use them and what for.. Only one has teams of psychologists working to figure out how to keep you online longer for the purpose of analyzing selling your data, and targeted ads.. The other has an owner like me that says "Hey we got some eyeballs, if your product applies to this group spend some money".
