Winch and a Motorhome

I was driving back from Lake Powell and had some time to ponder crazy ideas..............

Do you think you could pull a Motorhome out of a bad spot in the sand with a winch and anchor. Of course it would have to be a good-sized anchor, would dry sand get it to hold?

I currently have got stuck a few times, but my ramps have always got me out without getting towed. But at some point, I might want a bigger Motorhome and I usually don't camp on Gecko. Thinking of ideas.
 
I have seen a guy bury one of those giant bumper jacks that jeeps often have and winch out.. that might work if you bury it deep enough..

That said I have gotreads in my Moho for this very reason.



I think these are better than traction boards

Biggest concern with the anchor would be if it DOES hold. Hard winch pull and that anchor may not stay in one piece.

Burying a tire works.

Traction boards work for the length of the board. I’ve never been stuck in only 4’ of sand.

problem is once you get it deep enough to hold, are you going to be able to get it out?
I thought this as well, we use these anchors to hold the houseboat, we can always get them out.

I usually have an extra truck around, so getting help isn't really the issue. If I get stuck, 1st thing I do is put the jacks down and get everything back level, put 5' ramps under the rear tires and drive out. But, currently in am in a 2006 Class A Motorhome, but in the future I am looking at a Super C possibly, so thinking outside of the box.
 
I've been stuck a time or two with my Class A gasser, in the flats off to the soft side. Ughh. What finally worked was using the leveling jacks in the rear to lift the ass up and then put fire wood under the rear tires. Once I let it down, the firewood would get buried into the soft stuff, then repeat the process over 3 times until the entire track path was all my firewood under there. Made about a 6 foot strip in front of the tires and out she went! Pedal to the metal with a swift U-Turn trailer and all. Looked violent but I was finally out. Couldn't even find my firewood but a couple pieces afterwards. Used this trick a 2nd time and worked much faster and easier now that I had the experience lol.
 
I was stuck in my Class A diesel 40' years ago off gecko. Jacked it up a few times and put wood under the tires. Got me out.

Not goin to be as easy or fun with may larger tag axle. Had it for 4 years and thankfully never been really stuck. Got stuck once but just unhooked the stacker, raised the tag and got out fairly easy.
 
Yes it will. You are gonna have to do some work and make it easy though. The other anchor would work much better. The deal is, you have to set it up for success....IOW, jack the RV up off the ground and at the very least, fill the holes in w/sand. If the RV has to roll up and out of a hole....no, it won't.

Do you have a buddy that can weld? That 2nd anchor looks easy enough to make

Either way....you need a shovel.

Does your RV have jacks? If so, you jack it up and put boards under the wheels. I'm assuming, that you only need to move about 3' to get to a hardspot and then move or move it 3' at a time until you are out. You are talking about some calorie burning activity.
 
Something that is often over.looked is a mound of sand in front of the tires.

3" of sand in front of tires makes it impossible to move.
