Unhooked the Jeep as @Crusty suggested and went for a ride. No real dunes to speak of. Mainly sand trails out through the sagebrush.
Some pictures from the tallest sand hill.

Went there once with the family about 10 years ago. Not much there, no real dunes and the sand isn’t really sand, it’s ash. I have no plans to ever return.

I agree with your description and also won’t be going back. But it was right off of Interstate 90 as we were heading east to get some lobster in Maine.
