My family and I have been going to rv parks for vacation more and I always rent golf carts and i think it is time to buy one for the family (kids), Anyone have suggestions or pros and cons. yes, I am wasting money, but my kids had such a blast and get them to be better drivers. I am thinking something street legal would be better so I can drive around the neighborhood too. Many thanks in advance.
 
Electric or gas powered is my first question.
Gonna Nutrend it or leave it stock? 😜
 
Yamaha either way...well established brand with part available, even on older models - in 2017ish? they changed to EFI, if I didn't have one already that's what I'd be shopping for...

Stick with electric. For what you want to do with it, electric is the way to go. Plug it in at night and thats all you have to worry about it. As you already stated, most parks will only allow electric, also, it seems like parks that do allow gas will have a curfew for driving it in the park. All the way around, electric is your best bet. Go Lithium or convert it once you find one. There are a lot of used available on Facebook Marketplace right now. I have owned multiple EZGO's, all electric and all worry free. Can't speak about other brands.
 
Golf rides always crack me up.

I have an uncle in Michigan whose has worked his entire life in the golf whip industry. Golfing in Michigan is a BIG deal. On the west coast they are golf "carts". He gets super pissed and corrects me saying they are golf "cars"....lol

My golf cart, 48 volt (non Lithium) can go 25 miles on a charge, I will never go back to gas. If the cart is within 10 years (ezGo or Club), you will get good life out of them.

For campground purposes, go electric. At least 48v also. Lithium will get you further on each charge, FLA is still viable tho. I completed an Alltrax AC1 conversion on my 1990 Club Car DS a couple weeks ago and am still running a 48v FLA pack as my batteries are only 7 months old. Will change up to a 72v lithium at some point but can still run 35-40mph when I want with the 22" knobbie tires.

I'm a Club Car guy but EZGO and the newer Yamaha carts are all great carts. Stay away from the Kandi carts and similar Cheena carts unless you want absolute frustration getting parts for them now and especially into the future. CC, EZGO and Yamaha have been around forever and you'll always be able to get parts. Hell, I get most of my replacement parts from Amazon since companies like 10LOL and DriveUp exist there to support these carts.

Oh as far as street legal, that can be a bit of a job depending on the cart. If it's already registered then not a big issue, just have to carry insurance and whatever else DMV wants. If the cart hasn't been registered but has a VIN, say like a Western built cart, it can be done but will require a paper trail. If the cart doesn't have a VIN already, it'll need to have that process done plus it will need to have all usual lighting for the street, horn, seat belts, etc installed. Most Western carts that have a VIN already will also have the above mentioned items installed from the factory when they were built. *Most* Western carts were built on EZGO chassis.
