Upgrading a 2018 Can Am X3 2 seat.

Low mileage still on factory belt. Only upgrade the car has is seat belts. It's paid for and not used much. But considering some upgrades. It will need shock work. Springs have sagged over time. Add a cage with the plans of a roof rack for hauling gear to events. Door upgrade etc.

Am I foolish in putting money into this car? They are not worth much today in the resale market. I don't see much for sale in the used market for doors, cages etc.

I am a fish out of water on this SXS stuff. Sell it as is, buy someones elses already upgraded car but with unknown use and abuse???

Personally I would put a TFBB cage on it with a removable roof rack. Then I would add the factory lower doors.
 
those cars work well and their short comings are well known and aftermarket parts are available. I would keep it and just do the slight mods you want.

Belts are not the only mod done to that car BTW... 😁
 
Paid for car, that’s low miles. If you still like the car and don’t have plans to sell it. Then I see no reason not to upgrade it a bit and don’t worry if it’s financially worth it or not. It’s only worth what it is when you sell it. Not selling it, than don’t worry about it.

Look at it this way, you might be spending $4000-$4500 in upgrades, but your want list is pretty minimal, and not over the top. But to replace the car with the exact same X3 (don’t know your trim) but a 2025 model, that will still need the exact same upgrades and is going to cost you $30K. And if you decide to buy used, that has these couple of upgrades, you risk not knowing how the car was used, abused and maintained. You know the history of your car.

IMO if the current car does what you need it to do, and you’re happy with it. Do the upgrades you want. Don’t worry about the resale, unless you’re thinking of selling it sooner than later.
 
They are good cars and plenty of aftermarket parts options. For shock work I would contact Tom Morris, who is Santa Ana. He has been doing shock work on the X3 since it was released and has them dialed in.

If it does not have a front end gusset kit and shock tower brace I would get those.
 
X2 on Tom Morris. Had him rework our shocks last off-season and the difference is night and day. Handles like a slot car in the dunes

The website is terrible.

He has been working on the shocks on the Mav R when I last spoke to him. He does the shocks on Chris Blais race Mav R and some other racers.
 
You very first sentence says the car is not used much. Why bother throwing money at it unless you plan to start using it more. It's managed to survive this long without upgrades. Leave it alone and save your money for the Funco.

Save money, HA! Funco is good. Its been nice having two cars. With my involvement in the Veterans Ceremony and finding ways to get more stuff out with less dependency on others, I was thinking of a roof rack for the Can Am. This leads to a new cage and so on.

Don't get me wrong on the help we get with the ceremony. It's herding cats and were getting better every year. Having some fixed options is the goal and if we fix this car for a few events, we can lock that into the known fixed list and take it off the help list.
Cheaper than buying something just for the event and has some uses outside Glamis.
 
Well, I would sell it and find a 4 seater. Can haul a lot more stuff. The SxS market is shit. For what you will dump into yours you can probably get something better suited to your needs for less.

He called. Great conversation. I'll be sending him the shocks for new Eibach springs and his valving plus fittings for checking and adding nitrogen.
