WTB 4.5 Whipple

Looking for a 4.5 whipple setup.

I hope you have better luck than I did. After almost a year getting jerked around by Whipple I bought a used one that was supposed to be good. The only thing useable was the housing. 4 more months of the Whipple BS getting it rebuilt.

I think Grant told me your story. I will probably end up with the new 3.8 but I really like our 4.5 on my Wife’s car. Who knows maybe someone will want to go twin turbo this summer.

Can send me a DM if someone needs one, New in the Box, Boxes are not opened, has CBM Tensioner, y body adapter, 12 rib upper and lower pulley, fuel rails not injectors or map sensor, for ls7 heads

I was told the new 3.8 is better than the 4.5, do you have any data on this?
I have the 4.0 and I think it’s the least efficient of the three.

I have heard 3rd hand (can't confirm) that Redline used a 3.8 on the same engine they would build for a 4.5 and it made 70hp more on the dyno. I have no idea if the extra power was on the bottom end, top end or throughout the power band. You are correct that 3.8 is represented to be more efficient than both the 4.0 and 4.5. I opted to go tried and true for my new motor and did the 4.5. I also believe there is currently only one accessory drive option for the 3.8 it is a little spendy. I'm sure more will come in time.

I sure hope some engine builders start using other blowers like Magnusson or similar. Whipple is a challenge to deal with and I'm putting it mildly.

Lots of guys use the maggy and make a lot of power.

I only have it second hand that someone put a new 3.0 to replace a 4.0. Tuner claimed a bunch of additional horsepower but when the guy drove the car it wasn’t nearly the motor with the new blower. I really don’t like the look of the new blower setup. I will stick with the tried and true 4.5 for now. Maybe in a few years when the dust has settled I will be open to the new 3.8. I really don’t like look of the new Maggie’s either. They sound cool though.

I wonder if that’s the same guy I heard about? I believe it is in a new SCU. Sounds like a very similar story even though it made more hp on the dyno.

Yes, Allen has owned 3 SCU one with a 4.0 whipple 440 that he felt was undrivable with power, and this motor is almost the same size with a 3.8 and before that he had a funco, so he knows what the power is like, and I dont think the 3.8 does it for him.
