Kingman AZ puts you about 3 hours to Dumont (you ever been?).........and 4 hours to Coral Pink Dunes as well.....just saying.

My FIL's main hobby is cooking meat, various ways. I'm currently in the middle of getting them setup with a vertical Freezer so we can order a large portion of meat from Joel and Amy. Should be there in a few months, once the garage remodel is done.

Joel... you WILL be hearing from us!

Never been to either. Been 9 months since Glamis so I gotta get my sand legs back.
I've been only 4 hours from St Anthony but lack of bros, house setup and my dumb senior dog put a hamper on that.
 
Not to detract from your initial subject, but….other than the job, what didn’t you like about Idaho.?
Curious, as I’ve been in Phx or its suburbs my whole life, and I’ve visited Idaho and Montana many times. It’s obviously different living there than on vacation.
 
live in the same area as funco4lizzle, other then jobs/pay everything is the same/same as everywhere else. some people make it some don't
lots of things to do to keep you busy in the area, you just need to be outgoing enough to do it

we plan to ride this winter in the mountains above kingman, right now it's river season
dumont and glamis are easily accessible, but the open riding in the area allows for a lot of fun in the winter

my friends daughter works at the steel company nucor in Kingman, commutes from Mohave Valley (aka needles but on the az side)
the rest of us work for companies in Bullhead but service all the surrounding towns (automotive, boat repair, plumbing, construction jobs)

We're in Missoula, Montana.
Fucking great up here. No sales tax, homogenous, clean and polite society. Assloads of breweries. Gun laws are almost non-existent compared to CA.
Missoula itself is a big city compared to what I'm used to with shit traffic and more tranny flags than I'd care to see. I don't hunt, fish or ski so that's all lost on me. Rent and homes are getting expensive.
Winters in west Montana aren't bad and I don't care about cold but ice and snow create a barrier to activities I'm used to. Even if I could get out for a weekend in winter to Glamis, highways could be totally fucked.
My oldest daughter moved back to my parents in San Diego so just getting her back is motivation enough.
I miss my buddies too.
Yes, I'm a retard for not thinking this whole thing through better but its been an adventure and I'm really stoked for AZ. Always wanted to end up there.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. You gave it a shot and now you know! Not many of us have made that jump, but you did. Bummer that the outdoor activities don't quell your interests enough but its completely understandable, coming from Julian/San Diego.

In the end, you can say you tried to live in Montana, which is a dream for most of us on here. I feel your AZ adventure will be much more fruitful. Good luck!
 
I'd recommend doing whatever you can to get to St. Anthony. Nothing to do with your decision to hit AZ, it's just pretty awesome and should be visited at least once if you can swing it.

Congrats on the Move back this way Buddy.. My Aunt and Uncle have a Place in Golden Valley with some property Big RV garage and etc etc in a Nice little area just off Route 66.. He died few years ago from the covid so I been trying to get that place from my Aunt for myself to move too so Hopefully I can get out there at some point soon..
 
My header guy lives out there and has his shop in downtown Kingman. His name is Greg Holman and his company is REF. He lives out in the the country and drives into town every morning. He's been there at least 20 years, probably more like 30.

Anyway, Greg has seen the city change a bunch over the years having come from CA he was used to locking everything up at night. Never leave anything out you don't want stolen. Even behind the locked fence...

He loves his place out of town. Has a shop out there, but does most of his shop work in town at the shop. He shoots on his property and tests his off road stuff on the property when he gets froggy...

That is him. Awesome dood and he has a hell of a story. His dad was THE MAN at hooker headers when they started the company. They traveled all over the country racing and selling headers. VERY cool story.

IMO the best headers guy in the country. Does a bunch of strange stuff for Leno.

About a million years ago, he quoted me $1500 for a set of headers for a 56’ Ford I had with a 427 in it. It was all the money back then but I wanted them badly. I ended up spending the money on a divorce from my first wife. At the time the divorce was a much better investment. 😬
