I remember when you could get a rail to weigh under 1,000#. My first rail, w/a Pinto, weighed about 1,200. What do the the new ones w/llong travel suspension, w/newer big tires and all the bells and whistle, and etc. weigh. Are they over a ton?

Something like this....I have not idea(r) whose this is....

My SXS weighs more than a ton.

I remember in the timeline of sandrails, there was a split where sand rails and dual sport cars went in different directions. Shortly after mid travel became common, builders were offering light and minimal rails that were almost always VW engine and suspension based or heavier cross braced dual sport cars that were closer to a baja race car. The big difference between the two was weight and durability. Sand rails were light and could run quick with fairly low horsepower but couldn't take much abuse. Take them out to the desert hardpack and they often were damaged. The dual sport cars of the time were heavy and ponderous but were built to smash through Baja type environments. Even though there were builders advertising their rails as light weight, sub 1200 pounds and less, those numbers if verified were usually a rail that was empty of fuel, fluids, and battery and minus the driver.

im about 2000 and only a 2 seat - that car you're asking about is somewhere around 2500 prob...a Subaru car would be lighter - there's a nice AG car for sale on this site.
