It is, it's a thing here to drive up the the "mountains" and bring back a truck bed full of snow.  Not my thing, but a san diego thing....

I see one of my palm trees snapped in two from the winds today, 10” diameter tree. Wind was blowing straight towards shop doors today, was flexing roll up doors almost a foot into the shop. Never seen anything like the winds we had today

Nope. Just in CA, so the "unhoused" are a problem.
