Curious on sandrail owners and insurance claims. What type of loss would you use your insurance for.
I was going to start a poll but think this could be a good discussion in between choosing poll options.
We all know it's getting harder and harder to get insured and it's more and more expensive.
I have insurance and it's capped at 50k my car has way more than that in money spent but I have the race car mentality about the sport. My insurance is there for liability reasons and not necessarily replacement reasons.
Who else feels similar or has a difference of opinion.
I don't plan on calling them if I stuff the front end in a witches eye or if I roll down olds or china. That to me is just part of the risk in duning.

If I'm paying the premiums why wouldn't I use it? If the damage is just a bit above the deductible then I'd probably just pay it and be done with it. But if 30k in damage is done to my car then you can bet I'm filing a claim. It's good peace of mind for liability and theft as well. That being said, not drinking and driving and realizing that I'm not out there trying to win the Baja 1000 helps to keep the damage down.

Same, more for liability, or to help recover some funds from fire or total loss. I feel like standard stupidity loss is my expense. Filing a claim will likely get paid out followed up with being dropped or premium raised so high would be easier to self insure.

I am more concerned about liability but my cars value is much lower than most of yours. I’d only file a claim if it was stolen.

I think this depends on the value of your rail, $20K-$40K then might be worth not filing a claim...when you start to get into the $100K+ territory and pay the premiums that come with it....then I would highly consider filing if say a roll over or something extreme like that, minor stuff....just fix it...that's the risk we take.

All of our insurance is stated Value with State Farm in Arizona. Regardless of the market we get the stated value of the car. We are at 200k on our Funco. I want to say it’s 3,000 per year. It’s bundled into a larger policy that covers everything including my business. I would never submit a claim unless the car was stolen or totaled out. If that ever happens I will probably never be able to get insurance again. I assume your capped insurance is in California. If it is you will need to insure in another state. The state of California is run by the dumbest people on the planet and honestly that is being nice.

I have both my Funcos fully insured $250K and 150K. I will only file a claim if it is totaled, stolen or needs to be replaced. Sucks paying that much $$$$ for insurance but it will just be that 1 time that is required. Always want to cover my assets in case of need. Liability is a must...

I'm in the same situation. I'll insure my new Funco for $275k and plan to only file a claim if a total loss.

If you think sand rail insurance is bad trying having a big boat in Alaska - Uy vey!
