Hayword 8 cartridge filter housing model C7020STAMB has done us well for 21 years. The base cracked last year, and Shasta lifetime warranty replaced it for $70. Now they say it's no longer available and I have to purchase and pay them to install a new style.

Since I'm laying out $1500, is there anything new in pool filtration I should go to and get me another 20 years?

22k gallon pool.

I like the cartridge style, as well. I think Pentair and Hayward are pretty equal. Our pool is @17K(?) and with the 4 element Pentair I clean it twice a year, and it still doesn't register restriction on the gauge.

A pentair 420 will likely piss ya off, if going pentair do a 520 for similar filter life cycles
Or the Hayward 525
Aqua star plf35000, much smaller filter, but flow rates and serviceability are over the top good from what service guys says.
There also jandy, waterway and other misc filters, they’re all pretty much same

The Aqua star plf35000 is American made and has some good reviews. One filter to clean, but its only 250 sq ft of media. hmmm

I build pools, don’t have direct experience with them, but service guys I know are loving them. They flow at higher rate than 520sq ft filter, easy plumbing, and simplest access for cleaning. They’re rated up to 35,000 gl pool.
