Nothing better than a well lubricated bell housing.
Old PBS bell housing correct? New TO, new input shaft seal, new pilot bearing, new rear main seal. This one was a b!tch to get installed. The dowles were lined up and touching the bell housing, engine was still 1/2" away. Could not get it to click into place. Pulled it back, used the clutch alignment tool which went in/out easily. Marked the input shaft, reinstalled. Put a wrench on the crank bolt, moved it half rotation, pulled the engine back, marks wire still lined up. Reinstall, same thing, dowels lined up but last 1/2" wouldn't budge. I don't like these old PBS bell housings.

This one is the original Mendy BH. Only takes 8" triple disc clutch and VW starter on top of trans.

PBS bell housing is the "full size" unit that can take the larger clutch, block mounted starter, and still uses the external hydraulic slave cylinder and VW type T/O bearing. Key part of the PBS units is they use the small needle bearing deep in the engine crank. DO NOT use the sealed bearing flush with the crank, the input shaft splines will bottom out and can't both the engine and trans together.

New Weddle BH are pretty easy to spot (they have Weddle engraved on both sides of them). Full size clutch, block mounted starter, standard pilot bearing flush at the end of the crank, use Albins hydro slave bolted inside BH.
