So on my last trip to the dunes my car had some issues. First ride out the car goes into limp mode and the check engine light goes on. Look for the obvious problem, find out my clutch is not engaging / releasing correctly so that must be it. I am right at 4K miles, and this is where most people start looking at new clutches. So off to Joe Fab and I buy a complete set of Clutches. Ask what the best way is to reset that check engine light. Well, remove the negative side of the battery of course. So, while I change out the clutches, we remove the negative battery. Well that did not work check engine light still active.
Find out that only way is to use the computer and the only person in Glamis who has one is Todd over at the Rental place ( Shout out to Todd, he did a great job and helped out a lot)
Codes found are Turbo Failure, Overboost, Wastgate not working and low voltage.
Reset the computer and I leave the Rental area towards Comp, As soon as I cross the road I give it a little gas and boom, Check Engine, limp mode.
Return and have the same codes, We decide that low battery can cause all of the issues. So a quick reset over to Gilmores and get a new battery. Return to camp install battery only it is dead. Now it's time to put it on a charger. Charge it up ride around camp for a few minutes, seems to have been cured. Nope as soon as I try to go on a ride, check engine/ limp mode
Back to see Todd this time low voltage is not on the code list, There are a couple of firm updates so we install those while we check to make sure the turbo is spinning, and the wastegate is moving. All seems good.
Reset the check engine light again, drive from Vendors to about W10 nice and easy. From W10 to W13.5 I ring it's little neck. I head down the wash till about the end and back still will not pop the code.
Perfect it's fixed and I can go out for Saturday nights last ride. Nope things happen in the group and no afternoon ride. So I take the car myself and go from W13 out thru the wash again till just about Brawley Slide and back not taking it easy at all. So it's fixed, but before I put it in the trailer I decide to go for the Sunday morning run.
I don't even make it 1000 yards before pop goes the CEL
Bring the car home, take it to TNT they run the codes Turbo failure, Overboost and Wastgate failure They check everything but cannnot find anything wrong.
Then the worst possible thing happens, They reset the CEL. Now they cannot find anything wrong nor can they get it to pop a code. They check turbo, wastegate, boost controller, fuel injector and battery. Everything is well within spec. They drove it three times and nothing they can do looks out of spec.
So now what ?
