Worst "Mexican" food I ever saw was in Sydney AU.  Notice I said "saw" and not "ate" as one does not travel around the world to eat Mexican food and one look a the menu / food at the place we ran across told me that I'm correct . . .

Worst I ever had was in Peru..... Peru, Indiana.

Salsa was maybe generic Pace Picante, enchilada sauce was made by Heinz, as in ketchup.  I got the extra spicy on something that they warned me I couldn't send back, it was at best mild taco bell.

I wish I only saw that mess. It was the only Mexican place in like three counties at that time and it was packed.

Picture crusty put up sure looks good. Always on a salsa hunt.

Lately been doing a tomatillo and chipotle blend thats super tasty.

Headed to Philly in the next month or three. If I remember, I’ll stop by.

Every family member I have wants Mexican food when they come to visit San Diego. It wasn’t until I visited them that I realized why! It amazes me how different it is every where you go. Even border states aren’t that great. I keep telling myself to move to Montanan and open a restaurant. I could make a killing!

You'd have to make everything yourself, sadly.  Most of the reason for every Mexican food place being good here is...

They all get their chit from the same suppliers.

What @Rockwood said.  And some of the ingredients you won't be able to get locally or they will taste different dues to the water, soil and sun....

The mexican food I get in Baja always seems to taste better than in the states. Atmosphere may be swaying my opinion though.
