Fellow dune friends,

I am looking at replacing an older GoPro Hero 5. I am considering the Hero 12 and adding the max lens mod vs. the Osmo DJI 4 or 5. As far as I can tell, both would be very similar in functionality. I like the horizon holding, higher resolution capability that I believe both offer (vs my old one). But I was hoping someone on here may in someway shape or form via personal use or friends/family members who have could make a recommendation . I’d be okay with any other similar camera or recommendations as well of course. I’ve watched several YouTube videos comparing these two already, and I am not quite sure which would be better for daytime duning.

Thanks in advance!

lol. No haters. But I am looking at why you like your phone for videos.

For example of what we I usually record

I use the Gopro's and lost two in the sand. Now i use a tether strap and a big orange floating foam surround just in case i loose it i can see it in the sand. The Gopro units now have an instant upload of footage to their cloud which is $50 a year i believe. Its nice once you plug it in that it uploads and you don't have to deal with that end. Then you can edit and post to YT from there.

With that said, dune footage gets boring to watch and very tedious to edit and make it look good. If you do use a camera move it around the car for different viewpoints. I found the best ones to be on a stick hung a couple feet outside of the car and down low.

I do t feel like recording every ride and doing editing. Same for dirtbike or jet ski. To me all videos end up looking the same too.

I do have a apeman a79 which does decent if I needed to record something though. Although I need to find it as I forgot where i put it at.

I use the Hero 10. Stuck a mount on the front of the roof and a roll cage clamp behind the c-pillar.
At the 1:49 mark, I switch the camera to the rear mount.
The cameras nowadays seem to be all the same for arguments sake. My dad has the Hero 11 and I couldn't tell you the difference.
Different lenses would make the biggest difference

im thinking of getting an insta 360 camera. they do pretty good attached to dave sparks blackhawk, figure a sand car should be fine for it lol

Thank you for the info. I like the different views. I’ll need to try that. Your camera seems to have image stabilization.
