My wife and I are thinking of taking our daughter to Glamis. She is 3 and loves riding in the can am on the Forrest roads here.

we have used a bump seat for the last year but are thinking of putting her in a child’s seat with a full face helmet.

how young have you guys had your kids in your sxs or sand car?

I had my daughters in the car, not SxS at 6 months....obviously at a slow poke pace.

I would be keeping a bicycle helmet on until at least 4 or 5 when the necks are stronger.

Then I would get a good carbon fiber BMX for another year or two.

We have been going back and forth on the bicycle helmet vs full face helmet.

Daughter since she was 5. Booster seat previously but now she is in the regular seat

I started my daughter and my son at about 10 months on trails in the RZR and about 1.5 years old just puttin around in the sandcar and 2 years old duning all over the place.

There was a pretty good discussion on possible harm vs benefit of putting a helmet on children awhile back, the weight of the helmet was the issue I believe. Do your homework prior to making a decision as to which helmet.

Any age in a SXS a helmet is required, but DOT approved helmets are too heavy for most little ones under 3 years old (IMHO)

Folks find BMX style bicycle helmets that work well and pass the eye of rangers.

Any amount of head protection is better then none at all for a kid. It's just the helmet weight and how you'll be driving that is the question that will determine their safety.

How do you secure the car seat?
I have some straps that loop back onto themselves that work amazing.  I am in the north west Valley I can give you two for your Daughter.   I had both my boys in my buggy at 6 months and 4 months.  Drove normal family ride but by no means was it a put put.  Jumps , wheelies etc   Kid slept thought the whole thing.  only wake up when I turned the engine off.  My 15yr old can drive better than a few in my group and is on my azz on a boys ride driving a funco.  He killed it in Idaho when he was 13.

Started my son at 1 with mellow rides. Then cut real harnesses in to a car seat and he started big kid rides at 3. His first big kid ride he was screaming and I thought something was wrong. I pulled over and he was laughing and was yelling for me to do more jumps and wheelies. I added a kids headset to the back and now he can just chat with me. The headsets in the back are nice so he doesn't need to yell anymore when he needs something

I took my (now 17 year old) at 2 years in the rail, but like stated, slow putt. I'd just get into 2nd gear and cruise.. There heads are so big they can get whiplash easy so just be careful IMO.

2 years old as well. Bought a lightweight moto helmet, goggles and neck brace.  Car seat ratchet strapped down like @Jtmoney714.  Still his favorite thing to do at 15.

Our son was in the sand rail with us at 6 weeks old. Car seat strapped in and putting around.
