I have been managing properties for a group for over 13 years as a side job. I probably work about 40 hours a week doing this nights and weekends, on top of my day job.
I have been the go to guy, that gets things done, builds relationships with tenants, and anyone from fire marshall, to employees in the tenants stores/shops. 2-3 shopping centers, a storage facility, 30 plus duplexes, and a ton of other stuff.
I get a phone call today, not even from the owner, from "his handler" saying have you met XXX, he is owners daughter xxx's boyfriend, and we are giving him all but 2 of your properties, so we won't need you any longer. 2 minute phone call, after 13 years of handling every city issue, fire inspection, customer issue, etc. and I rate a effing phone call from a handler, not even the owner.
I'm just floored. Grateful to have the remaining 2, but man, what a deal. I'm more mad about the way this went down than anything. Her 19=21 year old boyfriend.....really??
I hope these tenants eat his lunch.
I'll go tonite and clean out my personal tools.ladders, etc.
Can you meet us for a handover of the properties? Not sure what I need to hand over, I did every bit of this myself, noone taught me, helped me, or anything, it was making calls and building relationships and figuring things out on my own. Good luck to him, i'll have my keys ready and wish him luck i guess.
 
That sucks. Sorry man. As mentioned, grab your personal things and if you had any trackers or documents, throw that out too. Make him build it from scratch.

IF...they call you back...Uhh...we made a mistake...Now your services cost more. Make it a contract that if they change their mind again, they have to pay you out in full.

So tired of ZERO loyalty in anything, anymore, yet, they expect 100% of yours.

I was just talking about loyalty and building relationships, these days it seems to mean nothing at all to anyone.
I told the owner a while back, I've been here thru all of it, you've been thru probably 20 plus people or more, and guess who is always here
in the end, it is me.
funny thing is his wife called me this am, her salon had an door issue, do you have anyone who can come out quick? my normal guy can't come until next week, so yep, i had my contacts and had her someone out asap.
 
Crappy deal. Most people have no clue what it takes to actually get things done. He will be in for a rude awakening. Bet he won't last.
 
The loyalty thing is hard for me. I give people so much rope and so many opportunities to figure it out and come back. Acknowledge what you did, say you're sorry, explain yourself. We all go through stuff but the world today is quick to throw away relationships and loyalty and then think they can turn it around on you somehow.

I have ZERO issue cutting people out of my life. Former friends, coworkers, family....doesn't matter. With that said, I have people I utterly despise, yet in time of need, I'll offer to help. Generally, they are too self proud to accept so that seals the deal for me. Once that happens, I stop answering and won't help. People just become dead to me.
 
Personally, I would just walk away from it all, including the two properties. The way you were treated shows they had no respect for you and your loyalty to him over the years.

I would have told the wife when she called about the door to call the boyfriend and hung up.
 
slap in the face, I have anger issues and would told them off and walked especially if I didn't need the cash.
 
Company I work for laid off 30K people Tuesday morning. No phone call. No manager meeting. Sent an email to the RIF'd people and locked them out of everything. Long gone are the days being loyal to a company paid off.

Go get all of your tools and personal items, then call the owner, not the handler and tell him you understand him giving his son in law a position in the company wish him all the best but the two remaining properties just don't warrant your time, the family member can have them all. At the turnover meeting hand them the keys answer any questions they have at that time. If they ask for your contact list just tell them it's only in your phone. Then walk away and don't look back find a new side hustle. Take the kids contact info just so you know when he calls, so you can choose to answer the phone or not.

The only reason they are leaving you with two properties is so your around to bail the kid out, as soon as you properly train him to how you did things you will be gone.
 
i went and got all my stuff, ladders, tools, etc. wrote down some stuff on the walls of the riser rooms, etc. keys on saturday am.
i'll forget to tell them all the stuff that needs to be done saturday, they just wait on those calls. I felt inclined to clean up parking lots when i was there just now and as i loaded my ladders and stuff i thought eff it, he can do it. i'll send a text to all my regulars, and remove my number from the fire monitoring stations. he can enjoy those 2am calls now I guess. thanks for the words, its just a tough pill to swallow.
 
Sorry to hear. If/when the boyfriend fails and they call to bring you back, double your price. If they ask you to consult, double your price and give them the general number to call for the inspectors, etc. I wouldn't give them the personal contact info.
 
The boyfriend has to be a liberal douchbag that can not get his own career.

You phone will ring in the next couple days with questions said douchbag.

You probably know all the insider issues with all properties and that can be learned in 6 months or longer.

Get his phone number and have some hot as chick burn it up with an IG account and the daughter will put up with that shit and dump his ass!!!

Todays youts just dont understand.
 
Sucks to read this. As others have said. Time to drop them as hard as they dropped you. The carrot of two units as mentioned is just to transition the other guy. Eff that.

This X 10000000. Those people F'd you....Zero respect....I wouldn't even meet to give them the keys. Put them in a drop box....What they did was Bullshit.
