So, I was having some trailer wiring issues or that is what my truck was telling me. All of a sudden, I would get trailer wiring fault, Trailer disconnected and no trailer brake. Jiggle the cord sometimes the wiring fault would stay on, but the brakes worked. The other day the trailer wiring fault stayed on after the trailer was disconnected.
Noticed that the plug that goes into the trailer connector was cracked. So made do best I could. Everything seemed ok. Pulled trailer out and disconnected and now I can't get it to see the trailer.
With the trailer plugged in I can get the flasher, running light all to work correctly but no brakes.
I have the correct pin that will go from 0 volts up to around 12 or so as I move the manual slider on my factory brake controller, when I do that, it says trailer disconnected and I have no brakes.

Any Ideas?

I found three 7.5 amp fuses on the Toung of the trailer and they all ohm out as good, any place else I should look for fuses for the brakes?

Clean the connector on the truck. Mine started doing that same crap. Didn't matter what trailer I had hooked up.

I had similar issues and it was the brake pads needing adjustment. Jacking wheels off the ground and cranking the little adjustment thingy on all wheels till set correctly worked for me.

If the above recommendations don’t work see below.

I had a weekend warrior toy hauler that would give a trailer disconnected fault on my truck dash periodically, then eventually permanently.

Mine wound up being the brake wiring that the runs through the axles had wore through the wire insulation causing a short. Wound up having to cut off the wires where they go inside the axles and run new wires on the outside of the axles, bypassing the ones inside the axle tubes.

This totally solved my problem, and allowed my brakes to finally work all the time

So here is where things are right now.
On GM recommendation decided I would run up to the Vato Zone and get some dialectic grease, but first had to back up truck to get out of the driveway. Start truck Trailer Connected; Brakes work. Back up turn it off and go get the grease. Come back, unplug the trailer apply said grease, plug back in start truck trailer connected, brakes are showing they work. Voltage goes up on factory brake controller. put it in drive just to run it around the block as soon as I dropped it in Drive trailer fault wiring, no brakes. Can't get them to come back either.

As soon as it cools off a little bit I will slide under and check wiring at the axels, right now my weekend is flocked at least I have an appointment on Wed for a pro to look at it.

Cut the wires going thru the axles and redo them outside the axles. Like said the wire inside the axle bounces and ends up shorting out. It’s happened to both warriors I’ve had and all my friends toy haulers. It can cause a fault and you won’t have brakes when you need them.

You trying to go to the dunes today?

So, I bagged out for the weekend, first time not making an October run in 20 years at least.
The guy across the street came over and we plugged his truck into the trailer. Same issue. So now I know it is the trailer.

go grab some wire and zipties and rewire them post haste. Np one likes a quitter!

I wonder if just cutting one axle at a time will tell you which one is bad...

Sometimes you just have to know your limitations, this trip just wasn't meant to be.

I had all these same issues.
First, the fuse block in the J-box mounted to the tongue was all beat up. While checking fuses i noticed the plastic fuse block was cracked and sloppy. I replaced the block and the 7-way plug from the J-box. I still had issues.

Next, replaced the 7-way plug on the truck. Same intermittent problems.

Then I chased all of the wires back to the brakes (common issue) I still have the same intermittent problem from time to time.

Conclusion-2015 Duramax- this truck sucks. I have so many little, and some big, issues with this thing. I get random warnings to check this, check that and then the warning goes away. I do all the regular maintenance. I believe the trailer is perfectly fine and my truck is haunted. Sooooo, I'm have nothing helpful to share with you.

Broken/shorted wire somewhere on 1 of the axles.
I have fixed like 6 of these.

As stated, cut the wires and run new insulated wire on the outside of the axle.
Use hose clamps/rubber to hold the new wiring to the axle.
Make sure no wires/connectors are close to any suspension components.

Had it happen on 2 of the 3 axles on our WW. Fixed one and was good for quite a while. On the trip to VA from AZ it happened to the other axle, in the rain, with no brakes and about 14k pounds to stop. It wasn't fun but I didn't kill anybody.
