I have a question about registering a vehicle in AZ. If one was to buy a vehicle that is currently registered in AZ is it possible to re-register in your name in AZ but you live in CA?

Asking for a friend LOL

IIRC, you need to have an address, AZ, AZ drivers license, & insurance.

Bob

No need to have an AZ driver's license or AZ ID, just the AZ address and insurance.  i just moved to AZ and registered my truck in March.  Very simple process.

Just an address? Or do you need bills with your name on them with the address? Thanks

I had my Harley registered in AZ, had them use my CA address for the mailing so the renewal would be sent there. You do need an AZ insurance company to write the policy.

Just need an address. You can go to the MVD and get an AZ ID card if you want with the address. Do you have family or a good friend in AZ?

I registered my buggy in AZ. All I needed was an AZ address, used a buddies house. Gave my CA DL and used my CA mailing address. No questions asked.

you can use your ca address and drivers lic.  I would pick a service address of a mailbox store( you dont need to get a box) in LHC so no emissions. Have all mail, tags and plates sent to your Ca address.  I have a person that can even do this all over mail and phone and ship you out everything.  she charges an extra $50 over the dmv fees.

Biggest bummer would be if you got pulled over driving it in CA.  CA DL, AZ plates is a sure-fire way to get a registration ticket.

Is this for smog reasons?

no law against living in AZ and working in CA where you would need a CA driver's license.

Just looking at options. The vehicle would have limited use maybe 3-4k a year. Just hate all the California taxes.

Arizona uses the suggested manufacture sell price for RV's. paid 105 for my motorhome , suggested retail was 165k. around 800 a yr for me to register in CA. AZ wanted 2400. so I'm a backwards AZ resident that has California registration.

No but if you have a ca lic with ca address Chp will not be happy. If you are a ca resident with an az plated vehicle the az plated car needs to stay in az. Cannot come to ca with a registered owner holding a ca lic.

Boats and off road another story but with boats the trailer must be ca if you are a resident of ca. Chp specifically looks for that my brother got Popped for that. He didn’t transfer trailer had az plate.

IN my state, CO, you can't even go to the DMV outside or your county.  I don't remember the logic, or why I wanted to do it....That is if I remember it correctly.
