I am ready to take the plunge as crime where I live is off the hook. Neighbors car, my daughters car, friends SXS's all stolen within the last year. Now my home has plenty of security and surveillance but I still want to protect some of our hard earned goodies if they ever grow wings. I am curious if any of ya'll use a lowjack or type device? What have you got and what's your opinion?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The apple air tags seem to be a great solution. Good for about a year.
I was going to say AirTags but I think they recently changed the programming to alert anyone with an Apple I phone that there is one present. I think it had to do with people being tracked without notice.

You live in California. So even if you know where your stolen car is going onto somebody's property to get it makes you the one who is in the wrong. Getting the police to help well that has as much of a chance of happening as a guy/ gal with a (R) next to their name getting elected for anything but dog catcher.

Lock your chit up, Make your chit just a little hard to steal then the guy next to you.

And if somebody does try to take your stuff make sure you give them a sandwich and a puppy before sending them on their way.

That can be a deterrent.

my son has used airtags with limited success.

His bike got stolen & he located it behind a fence of a neighbors yard (Known problem house with the po-po) & they refused to do anything about it, even when he said "look over the fence, you can see the front wheel right there".  (this is the "limited part".)

Located it twice (yes it took him 2 times to get a clue....) to within 5 feet.  now the damn thing is sitting in my garage......

Friends car and truck were stolen. Car on a trailer from hotel lot. He had an air tag showed up on location he called lasd they wouldn’t do anything about it.

he went to where he saw it ping found the truck still no help he said he was getting it advised not to do so he got it anyways then called. They finally sent a deputy to take report. Car never found.

as for tracking I’d do a hidden gps tracker powered off a small alarm battery remote from main battery. I’d still tie it into cars electrical to keep it charged but when thief’s disconnect main power well then the gps would still get power.

I bought 4 Apple Air tags for my trailers recently. What I didn't know is air tags can only be seen by Apple device's, (I have a Android phone) and even worse only ONE Apple device. Not an iPhone and an iPad. One or the other. Looking for a different equipment tracking system now.

I use linxup for my work trucks and heavy equipment. They have obd2 plug in ones, battery powered one and others u can hard wire to your vehicles battery.

I believe they can be seen on any apple device that is signed in to the same apple id.

Find It Now GPS Security (finditnowusa.com)

Mark trailer was stolen,  hit the notification for the police button, and in a couple of hours he got back is property and it was a man and wife, they where arrested.

Every time someone touches my car it pings my phone,  or when the battery gets low,

Problem with a apple tag, is if you sense the tag with a phone you can find the tag and disable it,

I had spot trace on my boat while in storage, depending on your service type it would send location alerts in different intervals while moving, and then once stopped. Probably cheaper options out there though. Downside was inside the storage building it had no service, which worked fine since the only time I should see it moving was behind my truck.

I velcro a spot tracker inside my rail when i take it out.  Battery only lasts a couple days, but better than nothing.

I have now tried over the years ,About 6-7 different ones and I must say Tracki is the best one out there, I have never found a tracking system without a monthly fee period, That works. They average is about 150.00 annually. for most trackers. Tracki for me is the best because it is small and easy to hide, Battery life can last a month depending how often you set it up to ping your phone. It can also be hard wired into any vehicle .

The Apple ID is the important part, it's what the airtag is tied to.  Data is shared between devices on that ID (iphone, ipad, etc.).  Like, I get text messages on my current phone, my ipad, and my old phone (because it's still logged in and on wifi) .

AirTags cannot be shared.

They are tied to one Apple ID, and only deviceS logged in to that Apple ID can see and track them.
