It seems like the geniuses at Edison think it ok to shut off the power for hrs on end.  Last week they had it off for over 14 hrs. Shut the neighborhood down Saturday night for 4 hrs and it just went off at 3 today with no warning.

Anyway I’m looking for a electrician to come to the house and install a transfer switch. In the city of Yucaipa. Does anyone have any recommendations of good honest  electrician that’s not a flake. Thanks

Same situation here. Would like a generator panel installed but want it done correctly. I have several electrical contractors buddies but they're slammed with work and can't make time to get to my house.

3rd world…I mean, 3rd state problems.  :hello:

Flip the main off and back feed the panel from your geni through a breaker.
that what i do but we only lose power when we have big storms every few years.  do a sub panel with a transfer switch or a whole house transfer switch with a big generator if you lose power frequently just makes it easy for any to get the power back on

Illegal. Safe if done properly but should you make a mistake, it may cost a lineman their life. Better to spend a tad more money for a generator interlock switch. Same principle but legal, safe, and affordable.  https://interlockkit.com/
while i agree with you 100% on safety, i always wonder that a 30 amp power supply from a genny would not go very far in the sense that there are other loads (other home etc) and it would instantly be a big voltage drop.  maybe if you back fed a 100 amp big genny i could see that a lineman could get hurt--but i dont have any real world experience, just my thoughts

Let me explain how a transformer works then.  When the power company sends out power it is very high voltage very low amps in the transmission lines. They take a transformer and step it down to low voltage high amperage for you to use.  Back feed that transformer with your little 120 volt 30 amp genny and it goes the other way.

100 to 200 milliamps across your heart can kill you.
