I have a TST tpms system and it's great, but have had another flat for ehat seems to no reason.

Has anyone had their tpms sensors cause flats?  (Yes I just replaced the o-rings).

Can you submerge these sensors in water to look for leaks?

Thanks

Bob

Spray bottle of soapy water should be all you need. They should be water tolerant otherwise you'd have to replace them or remove them every time you drive in the rain

I left all 6 sensors on my 5th wheel over the summer and lost about 10 to 15 lbs in each of the six wheels.
Took the sensors off the truck and all six wheels were fine over the same period. Maybe a 1 or 2 lb lose.

FWIW, one tire went completely flat in the 3 weeks between my last Glamis trip & this weekend.  not sure when it went flat or if it was the sensor, but I swapped the tire & it seems to be OK, which got me to thinking.............

Im headed to discount today to get the tire checked out (Ive had issues with these Goodyears) & will check the tire that now has the TPMS sensor today to see if its lost anything in the last day.

thanks

Bob

I have the Tire Minder sensor system. Back two years ago had one trailer tire was low a few pounds when checked before each trip. While filling with air found by accident the rubber valve stem flexed easily allowing the sensor too hit the wheel and loosen.  Replaced with steel stems problem went away.

Same thing happened to me on my truck. Had all the rubber stems replaced with steel ones. No problem since.

I've had issues with even small valve stem extenders (to help air up duallies) fatiguing metal valvestems due to vibration.  I try not to hang anything off of them anymore.

Whelp...  as it turns out, I am able to break an anvil... LOL

There is a hole in the barrel of the wheel, where the center section is welded to it.

$70 later dicount had it replaced.  Makes me wonder if my other phantom Goodyear issues are not 30 year old wheel issues....

Thats way more typical than you think on trailer wheels on heavy rigs I have had a few myself, - the leaK drove me crazy figuring it out the first, well - thats until the wheel pulled a 2" chunk out and it went immediately flat and wobbled like a drunken Duner .  The wheel that on the other axle did not leak, but it looked like this  - Likely it would have completely come apart in a few miles - I was lucky I checked all of them ...

I  hope this pic shows how it pulled away - the other wheel just cracked at the weld

@Fullthrottleguy, one thing I noticed about the new wheel is that it's computer welded all the way around the wheel, VS the old one that has 6-7 inch welds around  the circumference.
