my BIL & SIL recently bought a 07-ish or 09-ish Rav 4 & he is having intermittent issues with the EPS.
sometimes when he goes out to start up the car there is no power steering & sometimes it does. he thought it was a "cold thing" but it happened to him the other day when he went out to go somewhere in the afternoon (after driving it that morning). its does not have a problem all of the time.
They took it to TLC here in San Diego (Toyota only shop) & they played with it for a while, but could not get it to act up. my BIL did a bunch of searching online, but it does not seem like this is a very common issue so there is not a lot of info about it online.
seems like if the EPS is not working there should be a code set either in the ECM or maybe a companion code in the EPS itself. does that seem likely?
Does anyone have any experience with the Toyota EPS units?
anyone have any suggestions on places to take it here in San Diego county?
