Do any of you order food or groceries for delivery? Do you abide by the 20% tip? I ran into a discussion ran by the delivery drivers and they expect 20% minimum. They admit to doing some pretty sheisty things if you don't.  An example was given about a Costco order for $1,000 and they expected a $200 tip minimum.. They showed that instacart was only going to pay them $9.13 on that same $1,000 order.

Personally, I would probably tip 80 bucks depending on what I had ordered. The prices are already inflated and there's a service fee.

Didn't realize these companies could get away with paying these people that little.

Tipping is out of control. Covid gave a huge boost to tipping in so many areas that never received tips anymore. Half of my Uber drivers (Not Uber eats) mention tips. The ferry out and back from the channel islands last week had a tip jar up. My pizza order picked up in store gave me the option of tipping twice and the boy who brought my pizza out blatantly asked if I would like to tip him. I often tip for unexpected or above average service but almost never for standard service and I have stopped using several businesses simply because of getting hassled for tips. The value isn't there and if the workers can't survive on their base pay, they need to hustle up a better job like I did.

This x eleventy billion!  No handouts from me for standard service/work.

We MAYBE order in every 4-5 months, if that.  Mostly for those reasons.  If I go to a restaurant and I get awesome service, I will tip up to 30%.

When I lived in the SFV we frequented a restaurant called Casa Torres where we were treated like VIP.  The server/bartender made awesome drinks and made sure we never ran out of salsa or chips.  A few times I tipped him $50 on a $100-$120 bill because the service made us feel so great after a tough week at work.

it is so out of control... LA county is taking the lead on this for sure

And the (mostly) younger workers expect it is part of their "compensation"  they say we are underpaid and YOU need to make up the difference - as soon as they tell me that I just don't tip.

I cannot believe self-service kiosks add a 20% tip  unless you remove it in many places. And we do use Instacart or did quite a bit during Covid, and its already as mentioned fee laden, we just do 20% across the board but our orders are rarely over $200.

Tipping everywhere has become a "tax"  just think about it - I would say 80% of my daily purchases are asking for  minimum 20% tip -   that's basically a 20% tax on everything I buy   - Basically a 20% pay cut ....

We are already at 10.25% state tax in my town and we are slated for 10.75% in 2024  ... will the minimum "tip tax" be 30% by then too?

Wait a minute! I’ve been missing out all these years. All the times I say “ do you want fries with that” everyday and no tips. Ungrateful customers.

Joking aside. Waiters/waitresses get a tip based on the service not the total of the bill. Uber drivers that say  “lets go Brandon” in English get a good tip.

Just the tip?

There was a small family sub shop near my old office.  I went there 3 or 4 times a week.  They never even had a tip jar on the counter.  Then they upgraded their POS system, then they had a tip option.  I got to talking to one of the owners one day and he told me that they didn't ask for that option and it wasn't even an option to remove.  He even tried to get his old system back but that was no longer an option.

Only place I don't see them asking for a tip is at the Circle K.

I just ignore all of them, As far as the Uber Eats/ and Insta Cart. I tip just like I use to tip the pizza delivery guy. a flat rate, not a % of the bill. I mean we are already paying for a service.  The pizza guy isn't working harder or taking less deliveries because I am buying 1 pizza or 10.

I never get a tip for my deliveries sometimes worth 1/2 a million and can take hours to load and deliver

Professional responsible people don’t get tipped.

Should we tip pilots for not crashing?

Should we tip firefighters/paramedics for saving us?

Call me an unsensitive ahole, but I am the worst tipper.

I am a good resturant tipper and give the server cash upfront so I get treated well.

Domino, Starbucks, etc, hell NO.

THIS!

Except the Pizza guy, tip that guy because (we) they need that extras $ for gas. Did that for years in Highschool.

I will tip waitresses, Bar Tenders, Uber drivers, Pizza delivery drivers and Blackjack dealers if I am winning, other than that I keep my cash in my pocket.  But when i do tip, I am very generous.

I tip very well at all my local spots and sometimes it pays off. Saturday afternoon, I went out for drinks with a bartender friend and she wouldn't let me pay for chit, basically told me "I see what you tip us every day and these are on me."

Everywhere else, it's the standard 20%, a few extra if the service was exceptional.  No tipping at coffee houses / pick up etc, but will tip the Uber driver if they know how to drive and don't play crappy music . . .

Eff that; and im not tipping you for handing me the 14$ burrito that was 7$ 3 years ago
Food prices here have gotten fully insane.  Just spent a week in Japan, a country that imports over 60% of its food, and the most expensive meal was a wagyu beef place, total price for 5 to eat: $80 with a round of drinks.  Most meals at a fonking sit-down restaurant were in the $5-10 range.  Hell, we SLAYED a Sushi Go-Round, $40 for 4 of us, including sake...

Oh yeah: not a single place accepted tips.  None.  Everyone was prompt, polite, and no one seemed too good for their job.

If SERVICE is involved (meaning you take my order and bring food) / I tip.....Ordering Take out OR a Coffee No Tip... Its funny,,,,Pay Cash and there is no "option" to tip....pay with a card all of a sudden there are Tip Options.... Its CRAZY

I tip the Uber driver... shuttle driver at airport....etc

Ive never used uber eats or food delivery except Pizza and I always tip the pizza guy.

Culture has gotten INSANE and 20% is now just expected......sorry, I don't have the extra coin to just throw around because you took my order and then made me walk up to the counter to get it...If Im asked for a tip, Ill say " Here is a TIP,.......offer me a service and you will get a tip$, otherwise...No Tip for you!"
