Do you think that much would come in just from the two open holes?The sand is coming in from the top. The bent sheet metal piece bolted to your adapter is typically enough for the bottom. Clean up the mess, install a new seal, and plug the highlighted holes with a finger full of silicone.

Wasn't there somebody that complained that their engine valley filled up with sand or water after they had sealed those holes? Maybe I'm recalling that wrong..The sand is coming in from the top. Something to think about.
I know Chris at benchmark performance would use weather stripping around that seal that squished between the trans and the motor
