This is a relay of what happened on our New Year's trip.  We took 2 grand-kids, a daughter and her fiance.

I took 1 of my grand-sons out and gave him a class on the dunes.  On his last ride, my brother-in-law went crazy and gave a spirited lead/route through the dunes on his 350ATC.  My GSs were on 230s and kept up just fine....training complete.

My prospective Son-In=Law....not so much.  The boo-boo head doesn't know how to drive a stick and has never driven a moto, of any type.  I gave him the same training.  I regret this now....not warning him.  ON the 2nd or 3rd ride, I took them down Buttercup's China-Wall.  He later said that he forgot where the brake was (I aught to tell my daughter to lose him after that admission).  I didn;t see it, but he hit a bump at the bottom.  Duners resting at the bottom reported that he did the Donkey-Kick when passing the bump and hit his chest on the bars.  Shortly afterwards, 2 people turned back.

That was my first time to hear the term Donkey-Kick.

My Brother-In-Law's wife reported that the Smith girl's boyfriends are now 2 for 2 (BTW, the names have been changed to protect the guilty/innocent).

2 years ago, my other daughter's fiance (now hubby) went to the ER for 3-4 stitches (I wasn't there, don't know what happened, other than he rolled).

Where the heck are my daughters getting these guys???   My grandsons had the same training....and came down the same wall w/o issue.

Sounds like a case of the bucking bronco... 😆  (That's what I call it if we're talking about the same thing)

You ought to see these guys try to use a skil saw or a hammer...

As I've heard in baseball, it's generational talent. Today's, not so much.

Same stuff here, daughter(21) was raised in the dunes and her boyfriend went for new years with us.  I would not let him drive because he is the same, has zero mechanical ability or offroad common sense.

It’s in your DNA/blood or it isn’t.

It can be learned, but it takes effort to learn it.

buddies working on his 84 250r in his garage. buddy shows up hey let me ride it. No back brakes aren't working. I'll take it easy just first gear. next thing you know WFO down the street, got excited, forgot no breaks, hits a curb and launches said trike into a brick swimming pool retaining wall, totals the trike. then tries to sue my buddy!

less than a year later he had saved up for a 86 250 r, and:

kid was in air force. my buddies sisters boyfriend. We are riding at the river. he says hey man let me ride your bike. I have a street bike (and we knew that). He said hell what's the worst that can happen, its the river. Kid jumps on the 3 wheeler, WFO into the ONLY POLE on the river bed, messes him up bad. had to load him in a truck to haul him to ER.

He wasn't wearing a helmet! Air force supposedly booted him for that.

He never learned to not let people ride your stuff lol!!! both dudes were really messed up

One thing I leaned is never let anyone borrow or ride your stuff unless they make more than you. :bangin:   :dunno:

we used to call this getting bucked, never heard of the donkey kick lol

Stupid hurts. We’ve all done it. Don’t fault him, fault his milquetoast father.

True test: did he get right back on and keep going? You can teach technique, can’t teach attitude.

He did get back on.  We took a rest.  I ran the hill a few times, and then we rode south to the border and took a break.

He was in pain....From there, my daughter and he went north, back to the camp.

At least he sacked up and finished the job.  Glass half full and all.
