The eldest needed a car since he’s 16 now. Wanted to also get a buggy, and the kid’s been squirreling away birthday, Christmas, allowance, odd job cash, etc since he was 6. Bought this guy with his own money for $5k from a neighbor. IMG_0950.jpeg

Went ahead and washed it up as much as we could (plan to re-clear the hood and roof as is typical on 2000-ish cars). IMG_4713.jpeg
Next up: timing chains. With 200k on the clock, it was time. Surprisingly, everything looked decent, but since we were in there, the water pump, PS, oil pump and chain set (all Melling) were replaced. Still completing that job, but after 9 hours of toiling:

Almost done. Have the motor buttoned back up and just need to put the accessories back on. I really hate the cab forward design new trucks have. Getting to anything towards the back is anger management 101.

Next up is to replace the stereo head unit (already has a bumpin system).

Eventual plans are some sort of LT setup or SAS, and regear it for whatever tires end up on it.

AWESOME Congrats to your son !!! Soo fun helping them dial in their first car....They appreciate it soo much more when they buy it and need to do the TLC

He will ALWAYS remember you helping him get it tuned up and ready to go !

Epic! These were/are great trucks actually! Only complaint was always those damn chain guides and the occasional spark plug blowing out of the hole. I'm not much a Ford guy because mi Cheby but they definitely commanded their respect after several years of use and abuse. He's gonna love it!!
