The end is near.
Copper and fiber are going the way of the dinosaurs.
AT&T sold DirectTV And it's all based on Starlink
.

It was a good run. 130 years of twisted pair copper that went from motherfkin telegraphs to the invention of the interwebs may be outdated but provided a backbone broad enough for 100 years of continuous innovation... I can't think of a single other technological platform that has lasted that long while undergoing so many changes. Not sad to see it all on fire in the dumpster but having spent some years in the telco industry can't help but be a little nostalgic at what Ma Bell was able to accomplish.

So what were the key points of that guys video? I can't watch another youtube "channel" theres too much fluff and talk about nothing and hit like and subscribe blah blah blah. How about just get to the point and be done with it.

tl;dr

Wide spread access to quality high speed internet is providing options to rural areas that only had satellite options in the past. DirecTV/Dish (TV) and Hughes/Viasat (internet) have competition that didnt exist and it will affect their bottom line.

Starlink is great but I can’t justify its cost for me. I can go to the dunes and use my direct tv dish and set up in two minutes.

And if I had starlink and streamed I’d be paying way more than I do currently.

As a business owner, I need Starlink. I am able to make it for longer periods out there with Starlink. On big weekends I get coverage. I can do zoom calls if needed. I’d have to stay home if not, plus I don’t need DIRECTV anymore so it’s close to wash as far as monthly payments. These people that say get off your phone and get off the TV aren’t business owners. We are a $50M business with 175 employees and I have the right people in place but too much too lose as an owner to not keep tabs.

Funny you posted this. A group of my buddies and I have had DirecTV since the late 90's from college that we all share and have like 15 boxes among us all. I just last weekend swapped over from my SAT box to using a Roku and streaming the DirectTV on it because the box is soooooo outdated and slow. It's life changing. Lightning fast and full 4k and the Roku remote works amazing compared to the old DTV version. I think our only shortcoming is the max of 3 on the go setups, but we shall see. I use Starlink for work on the busy weekends so it's great.

If push comes to shove we will setup a dedicated server as a "Home connection" and then point the other systems to that to live in their rules for streaming.

I feel the same way... Especially about some of these UTV channels etc.. I don't want to listen to 20 minutes of bullshit.. get to the fucking point already!
