Tatum steering rack

The time has come to replace my steering rack on my black widow. I pulled the rack apart to reseal it, but the bore was scored. I ended up buying a second hand on marketplace. The one I bought has the tatum billet spreader on it so I got to thinking maybe I should fabricate some shorter tie rods and utilize that over bolting them directly to gear rack the way it originally came. Im sure there will be a change in geometry, but is there any reason why I shouldn't attempt this?

Have someone well versed in suspension geometry look at it for you. You probably would be adding bump steer unless your car was originally set up incorrectly.
