So finally got the motor all together along and it runs great or so I thought. Letting the car idle and bleeding the cooling system. Fans kicked on around 210 (normal) but the car would not cool down. Temp stayed at 210 and I noticed the coolant level in the bleeder container (plastic funnel that uses the special radiator cap) started to fill with coolant. Shut it down and started to inspect.

Hose from top of radiator to water pump was cold and when I undid the hose to check for flow, water was cold from the radiator.

Thought I might have a bad pump but took it all down and the pump looks brand new.

Anyone ever experienced something like this? I check for flow and there is no blockage anywhere. Maybe an air bubble causing cavitation?

Bad thermostat?

Is the bleed container attached at the high point in the system?

It happens almost every time I fill the system. A vacuum filling system or one of those gravity tanks has helped burp the system

Is the bottom radiator hose attached to the thermastat housing like it should be

Hose/radiator being cold is the smoking gun telling you there is air in the system.

start cracking lines while running to purge the air

Finally got it purged of air. Took about 20 minutes of idling.

doubt its fully purged, doing it that way generaly gets 90% of the air out.

watch you gauge, if you see the temp bouncing back and forth near normal running temp and not staying steady thats a reliable indication of air stil in the system

Whats the trick on the Honda J35s to bleed the air out? Ls3 i use the steam port vent tube, but I'm curious on the Honda given I'll have one soon.

nothing unique about the honda. its more about is the radiator mounted above or below the height of the engine, how lines are routed so they gravity flow naturally and so forth.
