I just found out they canceled our home insurance effective November 11th. No reason given. We're not in a fire zone, nor flood zone for that matter. No claims either.

I thought I saw an earlier thread where people were getting canceled letters as well and changing insurance companies. I was wondering if there was any out there that stuck out better than the rest for California? With me being in a low risk area I'm hoping that my insurance rates don't go up too much.

Any referrals are appreciated.

Also, If you have any roofer recommendations for East county San Diego, I'm looking for that as well. I made a post here in general chat.

I have been with AAA with zero issues.  Talking to people in the Insurance industry about this, they all recommend raising you deductible.  Nobody should have $500 deductibles anymore with anything.

This.

There had to be a reason, they use drones to take pictures now and send a letter that if x,y,z is not done be such date, policy will be canceled.

Who was the carrier? Sucks man.

None are great, they are simply less shitty then others more shitty....its all about $$ for ALL of them.

We've had Safeco for 3 years. There was no reason given. I know we're due for a new roof. I'm trying to be proactive on that with the next insurance carrier right now. I know I can squeeze another couple years out of it but I don't think the insurance companies are going to like it.

Fwiw, I'm with Stillwater in sandy eggo, for auto, home and umbrella.  They just sent me the renewal for my home, so I guess they are planning to stay for a while...

I'm not in a high danger area though

AAA has been good to us. We had a house fire which totaled my whole house. Never thought I’d have a house fire, but I’m happy we had AAA. Had to a little bit of leg work to get them to payout the amount it would cost to rebuild our house, but overall they were great to deal with. We also had clause in our insurance, I wanna say it was “replacement guarantee” which basically made them pay out more because construction prices were out of control.

I use Nikki Bostick for all my toys, RV, cars and trucks. They specialize in offroad stuff but I've heard Farmers will no longer write OHV policies, just keeping us that are grandfathered in.

I do feel if you can bundle with one company, they might be more reluctant to drop you??

State farm dropped me as well. I went with Jeff at St. Claire who does my buggy and trailer.  They got me covered with Mercury Insurance in Ca.  Mercury Ins has a phone app that you download and use to take photos of your house. You become the inspector.   Worked great for me.

Question for an insurance agent, if you’re with say, farmers and they are canceling or not taking on new clients. How can you carry on being a farmers agent or worse owning a branch in California?

$64,000  question... they get yearly residuals on the policies...new agents are screwed....

THE STATE HAS REALIZED THEY SCREWED THE POOCH AND IS ALLOWING THE COMPANIES TO GET MORE RATE TO KEEP THEM IN THE STATE....THINGS WILL RELAX SOME, BUT GIVEN THE ECONOMY IN SOCAL...NOT EVER GOING BACK TO WHAT IT WAS.....

FYI Stillwater stopped writing all ne business in CA 6-8 months ago.  If you have current policies and are being offered renewals, you are good to go.

In the state of CA, agents, brokers etc had several (20-30+) options a year ago.... now it is down to a handful of options of carriers still writing new business in the state, and of those writing.... they are being extremely restrictive on what they will accept.

Long story short, stop voting for democrats

Try LM.  That was the only co. that would insure b4 we moved from Fire danger Sylmar, CA (SFV).
