So many of our Glamis memories are filled with the family we adopted, and we have lost so many of those "family" members. I don't know that any hit quite as hard as hearing this news this evening. For many years Hurly had no idea that Grandpa John wasn't actually his grandpa. John treated us like family from the moment we met, and he welcomed us into the group of old guys with open arms. With his booming voice we could hear him greet Devin across the compound with a "Hey bhole" and a smile. He was one of those John Wayne swagger kind of guys, what they call a man's man, but he still gave the softest of hugs and always parted with an "I love you kiddo." I will never forget the sounds of him being towed behind Russ' sandcar, swearing at him the whole way, but laughing and shaking off the sand as soon as they got back to camp. He is reunited in Heaven with his wife Arlene and son . We love you Grandpa John.

Sucks to hear John was such a friendly guy and fun to be around. Him and devin together at the beach store was always comedy the way they joke with each other.

That sucks Steph !!! Such a great guy.

RIP fellow duner

You are missed!

:poule:

  thanks for sharing Steph, I would get random fb messages from pops and he would check in just to make sure all was good. I miss him and missed him this year at the ceremony. Now he can kick Dev's butt in person while laughing over a beer. So many great memories with these guys :classic_love:

Was thinking of him Vets and wondered if he still came out. Most likely think good thoughts of him and Dev everytime we pass the beach store.

John, you will be missed by many but I know your wife, son and that dumbass Devin are happy to have you with them.

Cheers until we meet again.

My family and I will really miss you John. I am glad you’ll be able to hang out with Devin again. We all miss you! God bless you.

RIP Sheriff John - condolences to those that camped with him and considered him family.

He was one of those "characters" in Glamis that made it a special place, more then just sand to ride your toys on.
