Ive seen the name "Algodones" about a million times, but never heard it pronounced until I watched those video's that @wopachop just posted.....  I looked it up & it roughly translates into "Cotton Balls".  anyone know the back story on that????  Ive never seen anything out there that made me think "wow, that looks like Cotton"....  not even the topography or anything.........

So.......... anyone know what the story is behind the name?

Lost in translation maybe?  Though the literal translation is 'cotton balls', maybe it's meant more like soft or round hills?

Just did a google translation and algodones=cotton.  That's a bit different than cotton balls

@Funco4Me, that was a nice little rabbit hole.  LOL.

I forgot about this:

We need some of the old guys, who used to hang around with the really old guys to give us the official rumor.  LOL.

We had a cleanup out there the day after those a holes filmed their video on Osborne. They left piles of trash up there. I talked to a female ranger driving a pickup filled to bursting with what they had left including smashed stage lights.

@Fireballsocal, well that is complete Bull chit!!!!!!!!  if they are Ph'ing slobs they need to pay someone to come behind them & pick up their trash!!!!  Azzholios......

@CMBAMF, that is very interesting information.  not sure I would have thought of that....

My best guess would be cotton produced in the region of Mexicali. Still a lot of cotton fields south of the dunes. You have the town of Los Algodenes in Mexicali to the east of Buttercup/Cuervitos dunes.

That makes the most sense...

"Cotton" brings back some memories.

Yes, I stopped next to a field of cotton on the way to Glamis one year. The kids were instructed on the correct way to harvest the cotton. I didn't require a full "Sack" before returning to the car.

Fun times, and a little history never hurt anyone.

Where was that?

Where was that?
In those days, we drove South on Hwy 111, (On the way to Glamis) ,

and I stopped at a field on the west side of the road.

Plenty of agriculture in those days. For a while, I had a "Side Gig" delivering

deli sandwiches to bars and such, including the original Glamis Store.

Fun times indeed.

Los Algodones was originally an agricultural town dedicated to the harvest of cotton, hence the name. But the economy started shifting after the first medical consultation office opened in 1986. Thirty years later, the medical tourism boom is far from over.
